What is the student learning goal for this lesson idea? The learning goal for this lesson would be for
the students to create/design a digital tool called PowerPoint. In this video, the students will highlight
the topic of dog breeds and their characteristic traits. The goal for the students would be to research
different dog breeds, what do dogs eat, how long dogs live, how smart dogs are, dog’s emotions and
body language. After researching the topic, the students will create and develop a digital learning
video that will allow them to plan and create a script on a storyboard that will allow them to plan
how they want their video to begin and end. and plan their thoughts on a storyboard. The goal after
creating the video is having the students share what they have created with other students in the
classroom or curriculum night for parents/guardians to see.

Description of Software: The digital tool called PowerPoint, is a learning tool is a graphic design
platform that allows students to design a presentation and create a video. This digital tool allows the
multifunctional of creating and producing topics through visuals, audio, pictures, and videos. This tool
allows students to produce a product and display what they have learned from the topic.

Lesson idea implementation:
How I will introduce the tool will be creating a PowerPoint for my students on how to use the digital
learning tool called the podcast. In the PowerPoint that I have created I will go over the steps on how
to plan, create, and produce a product and the different steps of creating a producing a PowerPoint
where the students will create a presentation and make it into a video. I will show my students
PowerPoint on the smartboard where I will discuss the slides during large group instruction. How I
will make my students aware of their goals for this assignment will be creating a checklist that will
allow the students to check what that they completed and allows them to visually see what steps are
next in the assignment. What I will be doing when the students are researching and creating their
own PowerPoint is I will review and monitor my students progress where I will offer feedback on
what they are created and making sure they are organizing the information they have gathered
correctly. I will conclude the lesson is during large group, I will have the students present their
PowerPoint presentation to the class. Having the students present their podcast will allow open
discussion between the presenter and the students.

Managing student learning: The tools I selected for this lesson will help them learn the topic of
researching dog breeds/characteristics traits. This activity will allow my students to be active social
learners because with the research process, the students will be engaged, have social interactions
with other students, discover, create a presentation. I will allow my students to do research on this
topic during English Language Arts. During the research process, I will offer books about dog breeds
called “Dog Breeds, Encyclopedia of Animal Breeds” and “Dog Breed Guide: A complete reference to
your best friend fur-ever,” where the students can physically look through. I will also have my
students look at facts on the I-pad, computer, and smartboard. After researching, the students will
get to plan and create a storyboard where they will draw and write notes on how they want their
PowerPoint presentation to look like. After creating their story board, I will review their storyboard
plan and offer suggestions and feedback before they start creating their video. The students will have
the opportunity to reflect on what they have researched by creating and producing through a digital
learning tool.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection: The Universal Design for Learning that I focused on
throughout my lesson is Multiple Means of Representation. In this lesson, students will enjoy learning
by creating a video on the information they have gathered by researching the topic. This lesson is fun,
engaging, and exciting to learn about dogs and their characteristics traits. In the classroom, students
will have support with assistive technology through visual cards, e-readers, touch screen devices,
speech recognition, word processors, and text-to-speech to help support students with learning
disabilities. The students will be engaged throughout this lesson by collecting information on the
topic. This lesson will allow the students will get to problem solve, have discussions, critical thinking,
and develop cognitive and emotional skills.
Reflection: The lesson I created for my students will allow them to be engaged from beginning to
end. This lesson will help with social skills and help foster a classroom community. What I look
forward to from this lesson is getting to see my students interact with other students when
researching and creating their digital tool. I will look forward to seeing what my students have
created and the information that they have collected when they present their digital learning tool.
