Students will be able to creatively display and
express their growth in 4th grade using a variety
1.6 Creative Communicator of formats (video, stop motion, podcast, info
graph, presentation using screen pal).
1.6.c Models and Visualizations:
Students communicate complex ideas clearly
and effectively by creating or using a variety of
digital objects such as visualizations, models, or
simulations.

What is the student learning goal for this lesson idea? (Add 1 to 2 sentences stating the learning
outcome you would expect students to achieve using the technology tool selected. This goal will be
shared with students so make it clear, concise, and kid-friendly.)

Student can use dialogue in their narrative writing and digital format of their choice.

Students can describe experiences and events in their narrative writing and digital format of their
choice.

Selected Instructional Software Tool:

Stop Motion Studio Pro, Screen Pal, Spotify for Podcasters

Description of Software:

Stop Motion Studio Pro allows students to create a stop motion video by taking pictures of props
with text. By taking multiple pictures of scenes, stop motion studio pro will compile these pictures
into a video.

Screen Pal allows students to record their screen, camera, or both. Student can record their
presentation while recording their voice. Students can edit their videos and can add background
music.

Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s): (Which level(s) will this lesson meet using this technology tool?)
Please put an X in the box or next to the level(s). Do not highlight or bold the response.

☐ Remembering ☐ Understanding ☐ Applying ☐ Analyzing ☐ Evaluating ☒ Creating

How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

☒ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☐ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast,
posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an
outside source.)
Lesson idea implementation:
Write a paragraph describing how the lesson will be implemented using the prompts as your
guide. Remember, this lesson MUST facilitate STUDENT-USE of an audio or video tool to
demonstrate their learning on a topic of your choice:
What activity will you plan for your students using this tool and how will it be introduced? How will
you make students aware of their goal(s)? How will students utilize the technology? What will the
teacher do? How will feedback be provided to the students? Finally, how will you conclude the
lesson?

This lesson will occur over a week and a half. Students will write a narrative piece about their
growth in 4th grade. They will use dialogue and describe how they felt at the beginning of fourth
grade and how they have grown up until now. Once students have typed up their narratives, they
will have the option of choose how they will want to tell their narratives. Students have the

option of telling their narratives through a stop motion video, a presentation using screen pal, or
create a podcast episode using their own voice.

Before students can start creating their videos or podcasts, student will discuss their plans and
ideas and get them approved by the teacher. The teacher will confirm what each student plans to
create and a general idea as to how the student will execute it. The teacher will provide
suggestions and guidance if a student’s plan is to elaborate or too simple. Throughout the process
the teacher will view the students videos or episodes and provide feedback.

The goal for this activity is to describe your narrative in a creative video or podcast. To conclude
this lesson, students videos and podcasts will be played for the class. The videos and podcast
should describe the students growth from the beginning of the year until now.

Managing student learning: Will the tool(s) used for this lesson cause a shift in the behavior of
students where they move from passive to active social learners? How?
How will you allow for time-on-task and shift from passive to active learning: (Examples - Set time
limits, student must submit a plan (storyboard) before using tool, co-use/co-engagement, Ask 3 then
Me, etc.)

The tools used in this lesson will not cause a shift in the behavior of students since these tools only
allow students to create. Students are not able to interact online with others using these tools. I
will set time limits to keep students on task and have students submit a plan before using a tool.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection: Be sure to mention one specific UDL principle you
are focused on in this lesson – Multiple Means of Engagement, Multiple Means of Representation,
or Multiple Means of Action & Expression.
Reflect upon the activity you have planned for the students. The technology tool you selected for
this lesson idea should support ALL students. How does this activity and the technology tools you
selected support and enhance the learning experience for students in the classroom? Support your
argument using at least one of the following principles of UDL: How does this tool support
Engagement, Representation or Action and Expression components of the UDL framework?

This activity and tools enhance the learning for students in the classroom by allowing students to
describe their journey so far in the 4th grade and to describe their journey creatively using stop
motion videos, presentation videos, and podcasts. These tools and activity follows the UDL
principle of providing multiple means of action and expression. By providing options for executive
functions such as supporting planning and strategy development. Throughout this lesson students
are planning what their will include in their writing and how they will develop their videos or
podcasts.
Reflection: After designing this lesson idea, how do you feel the activities you created will impact
student learning? What part of the lesson do you look forward to implementing with students?
Explain why.

I think that the activity I created will impact students learning by allowing them to self-assess their
growth throughout the year and by pushing them to plan what events and characters they want to

include in their create process of making videos and podcasts. I look forward to see what and how
students create and describe their narratives using the tools provided.
