Lesson Idea Name: Cyberbullying

Grade Level/Content Area: 3rd
Content Standard Addressed:AAVTC-AVTFI-1.1 Communicate effectively through writing, speaking,
listening, reading, and interpersonal abilities.
ISTE Technology Standard Addressed: What would you like students to know and be
Creative Communicator able to do by the end of this lesson: I would like
1.6.d: Students publish or present content that students to know the effects of cyberbullying and
customizes the message and medium for their why they shouldn’t do it. I also want them to
intended audiences. know what to do if they themself or a friend is
struggling due to cyberbullying. I will also be
teaching them how to use stop-motion
technology to make learning fun while still
gathering information.

What is the student learning goal for this lesson idea? Manage to make a successful stop motion
video and add sound to the video. I want them to know how to make each clip longer or shorter.
Selected Instructional Software Tool: Stop Motion App

Description of Software: This app will help students effectively add picture clips in different frames
to create a stop-motion video. They can then add audio or music to the background of the video.

Please put an X in the box or next to the level(s). Do not highlight or bold the response.

How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

X Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☐ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast,
posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an
outside source.)

Lesson idea implementation:

Write a paragraph describing how the lesson will be implemented using the prompts as your
guide. Remember, this lesson MUST facilitate STUDENT-USE of an audio or video tool to
demonstrate their learning on a topic of your choice: I will have the students view my stop-motion
video on cyberbullying while giving them a mini-lesson on what cyberbullying is and why they
shouldn’t do it. I will then ask them how they think the video was made. I will let students know their
goal by the end of the lesson (week) will be to create a fun learning stop-motion video as a group. I
will make sure students have iPads to complete the lesson and pieces of paper to draw different
scenes and characters. As a teacher, I will walk around and help wherever is needed and ensure that
all students understand the goal of the class. This lesson will conclude with students having their
stop-motion video played at the end of the week.
Managing student learning: Will the tool(s) used for this lesson cause a shift in the behavior of
students where they move from passive to active social learners? How? Students being able to make
fun, engaging videos for learning will make them more of active learners. Instead of just watching me
make a video or show them one, they will get to make a video themself and demonstrate that they
can follow directions. Students will complete this project in the span of a week. They will first submit
a rough-draph of their story using comic strips. They will then create the stop motion video and have
until the end of the week to tweak and adjust what needs fixing.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection: Be sure to mention one specific UDL principle you
are focused on in this lesson – Multiple Means of Engagement, Multiple Means of Representation,
or Multiple Means of Action & Expression.
This tool gives auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learners the opportunity to demonstrate what they
have learned in a way that they understand most. A stop motion video requires them to hands-on
create a video and add sound all for them to watch. This helps students get engaged in the whole
process of the project and gives them a way to actively express what they have learned.
Reflection: I feel this activity will make students more excited and engaged in their learning. I look
forward to seeing their faces when their stop-motion looks like the images are actually moving on
their own. Seeing students grasp an idea and actually being able to explain something is the best
part of teaching.
