SMART Targets and Career Plan

1. Explain what SMART targets are

SMART targets are targets that are:

S: specific (this means that the target cannot be vague if it is going

to work. For example you target could not just be to get a degree
at uni, it would have to be get a marketing degree from the
university of huddersfield).

M: measurable (this means that the target has to be able to be

measured in a certain way. For example if your target is not
measurable then how would you know if you ever achieve it).

A: achievable (this means can you actually get the goal you have
set yourself, for example if you set your goal to get 12 GCSEs but
you are only sitting 10 then that goal is not achievable).

R: realistic (this means that your target has to be realistic to you,

for example if you aim to buy a house in a year without a
mortgage, yes it is achievable but it is not realistic).

T: time this means your target must be have a timed element with
an end, for example your target would have to say I want to pass
my driving test in two months).

2. What are your SMART targets for your career plan? Explain
how each of the are SMART.

1. Target: leave college with the highest grade possible which

is D*D*D*.

S: This target is specific because it states the exact grade that I

need to achieve in order to complete the target.

M: This target is measurable because at the end of, and during,

college I am abe to see my progress and what grade I can get/
have gotten.
A: This goal is achievable as last year I got all distinctions on my
assignments so if I can do the same this year I will achieve the
highest grade.

R: This goal is realistic as I have shown that I can get high marks
last year.

T: This goal is timed because I have said I want to get it when I

leave college wich is next year in june.

2. Target: My main goal for this first year of university is to find

a part time job by November.

S: This target is specific as it states that I want only a part time jo

and I want it to be in the first year of university.

M: This target is measurable as I am able to see how well I am

progressing by if I get any interviews and I will also know when I
het a job as I will be informed about it.

A: This target is achievable as the university is placed near a town

centre with lots of shops that often employee students for part time
roles.

R: This target is realistic as I will be studying at university with

previous work experience so my CV should stand out when
applying for jobs helping me to get one.

T: This target is timed as it says I want to get a job by november.

3. Target: I want to rent a house close to the university with

friends near to the university by the start of the second year
of university.

S: This target is specific because I have said I want to rent a

house that I close to the uni and that I want to rent it with friends.

M: This target is measurable because I can see what applications

I have put in to rent houses, and how many houses I go to look
around.

A: This target is achievable because near many universities they

have student accommodation that I could live in.
R: This target is realistic because I will have a student loan, part
time job, and savings to be able to rent a house with friends, and
every year people move out of these houses so they should be
available to rent.

T: This target is timed because I have sad that I would like to rent
the house before the start of the second year at university.

4. Target: I hope to achieve a 2:1 on my degree at the end of

my third, and final, year at university.

S: This target is specific because I have said the exact grade that
I would like to achieve from university

M: This target is measurable because throughout university I will

be able to see my progress and what grades I can achieve based
on the grades I get.

A: This target is achievable because I have done well on a

business course at college and the skills learnt there should
translate to university helping me to complete work there.

R: This target is realistic because I know that I will want to

experience university life wich means it is not likely I could do that
and achieve a first class hournes, however I feel as though I could
do that and get a 2:1 degree.

T: This target is timed as I have said I want to get this grade when
in my final year at university when I finish.

3. For each of your targets – when are you going to review

them and how?

1. I plan on reviewing this target in April towards the end of my

time at college. I will review this by looking on the tracker and
checking what grades I have gotten on my assignments and
counting up how many points I need to get D*D*D*.

2. I plan on reviewing this target mid october in my first year at

university. I will review it by checking how many jobs I have
applied for and how many interviews I have gone to.
3. I plan on reviewing this target in late june in order to get
ahead of renting a house for the next year. I will review it by
checking how many houses I have visited and looked around
and how many I have applied to rent.

4. I plan on reviewing this target halfway through my last year

at university as this will gove me enough time to help with my
grades if they are too low. I will review it by checking my
grades from previous years and seeing what grades I need
to get in that year in order to achieve a 2:1.
