MODEL NAME: NEWTON'S CRADLE

CRADLE: It is a device that demonstrates conservation of momentum and

energy using a series of swinging metallic spheres. The device is named after 17"
century English scientist Sir Isaac Newton. It is also known as Newton's balls or
Executive ball clicker (since the device makes a click each time the balls collide,
which they do repeatedly in steady rhythm)

A typical Newton's cradle consist of a series of a identically sized metal balls

suspended in a metal frame so that they are just touching each other at rest. Each
ball is attached to the frame by two wires of equal length angled away from each
other. This restricts the pendulum's movement to the same plane.

ABOUT THIS MODEL :

This model is a working replica of Newton's cradle. Through this we want to

explain the conservation of momentum and energy

WORKING :

When one sphere at the end is lifted and released, it strikes the stationary
spheres, transmitting a force through the stationary spheres that pushes the last
sphere upward. The last sphere swings back and strikes the still nearly stationary
Spheres, repeating the effects in the opposite direction. If we take two balls at a
time from one side and release them, as soon as the balls strikes the stationary
balls, from the opposite side also two balls will be carried upward. This can be
done same by taking 2 and 3 balls also.
