ASSESSMENT TASK Style Guide

A Guide for Writing and Submission of Assignments


Secondary School
This style guide is to help you complete and submit written work.
1. All work should have:
 A Cover Page / Top Page
 Main Assessment Task: with clear task title and page numbers at the
bottom of every page
 Bibliography and References: resources and references you have used
 Appendices: for any additional materials
 Page Numbers: page numbers at the bottom of each page
 Margins: minimum of 2 centimetres: top and bottom; both sides;
 header and footer

 Subject English
 Due Date 14th April 2014
 Unit Title Unit 1: Welcome to Secondary School
 Task Title Self Introduction

3. All work should have:


 Font: any font that is easy to read
 Size: size 12 font
 Spacing: double-spaced

4. Check:
(1) Sentences:
 start with a capital letter; end with a full stop

(2) Paragraphs:
indent 2 spaces at the start of a new paragraph
a line after each paragraph
keep your following sentences together in one paragraph

5. Saving & Submission of work electronically


 Keep all your work saved on a USB / Hard drive which is easily accessible
 For each year of study, organise your files into subject folders.
 For each subject folder, save all your tasks.
e.g. 2014 - English, Humanities, Mathematics, Music, PDHPE, Science, Visual Arts, etc.
 Appropriately label each file with the correct extension file names.
Follow this format:
Year Level Subject Name - Name Initials - Unit Number - Assessment Task Number. doc, ppt, xls
e.g. 7ENG - AP - U1 - AT1. doc

Punctuation
 capital letters There is a cat in the garden.

 exclamation marks Good morning !
 quotation / speech marks “How are you,” said the man.

Spelling
 checked the spelling of new words kat -----> cat
 checked the spelling of plurals houses

Language Features
 a variety of different verbs He jumps, skips, and hops all day.
 correct verb tenses She is working on her report.
 subject-verb agreement They are always studying hard.
 appropriate adverbs The boy quickly ran across the field.
 appropriate nouns Her name was John.
 interesting adjectives There is a beautiful, blue sky out today.
 suitable conjunctions I like cats. But, dogs are better.

Organisation & Paragraphs


 appropriate number of paragraphs Par 1, Par 2, Par 3, etc.
 my ideas in a clear, logical order idea 1, idea 2, idea 3, etc.
 ideas that link together idea 1 -- idea 2-- idea 3
 a clear topic / opening sentence STARTING SENTENCE(S)
 body / following sentences MIDDLE SENTENCES
 concluding statements ENDING SENTENCE(S)

Proof Reading
 it is easy to understand I don’t like like.
 if any words are missing How many are there?
 any words are repeated I like soft, soft soft icecream.
