NEOPLASIA

Tim Dosen Patologi

Introduction ...
• Neoplasm  “new growth”
but how to distinguish from reactive hyperplasia?

a. Tumor : Swelling
b. Hyperplasia : Excessive rate of cell division,
leading to larger than usual but the structure and
arrangement remain normal (reversibel process)
c. Dysplasia : Excessive cells proliferation
characterized by loss of normal tissue arrangement
and structure. Potential for becoming malignant
d. Metastasis : secondary growth of a malignant
neoplasm at a site distant from primary neoplasm
Carcinoma in situ
Proliferation on neoplasia
• Tumor : swelling
• Dysplasia : alteration in size, shape, and staining
characteristic of cells in nonneoplastic neoplastic
tissue
• Anaplasia : lack of differentiation (tdk ada
perubahan pd sel??)
• Metastasis : secondary growth of a malignant
neoplasm at a site distant from primary
neoplasm (dit4 jauh dr tmpt aslinya)
Site of human cancer associated with chronic exposure
4 types of genetic
mutations that
contribute to cancer

1). Failure of DNA repair

2). Activation Growth-Promoting Oncogenes
3). Inactivation Tumor-Suppressor Genes
4). Alteration in apoptosis genes
