Challenge Task: Give the correct notes for each of the chord symbols below.
LQ: How many beats are there in each bar of music of a 12-Bar Blues? ________
Main Activity: Using an AAB phrasing format, write a blues lyric that you could use for your
12-Bar Blues composition/performance.
Phrase A: You ain’t nothin’ but a hound dog cryin’ all the time.

Phrase A1: You ain’t nothin’ but a hound dog cryin’ all the time. rhyme
Phrase B: You ain’t never caught a rabbit and you ain’t no friend of mine.
Notice how the lyrics in phrase A and phrase A1 are exactly the same, but phrase B has
changed. There is also a rhyme scheme present.
Create your own mind map: think of as many words as you can to do with the subject of
your lyrics.

Use each of your mind map bubbles to write a rhyming sentence which will form your AAB
rhyming lyric. You can work as a pair to do this task. Once you have finished, your teacher
will ask you and your partner to read out your lyrics.
