In 1616, the Recollect Fathers which built a beautiful church and convent in Cavite.
They remained here, spreading the light of the Gospel and promoting Christian
civilization, until the outbreak of World War II. Determined to continue the work which
they had begun in Cavite, the Recollect Fathers founded in 1966 the San Sebastian
College-Rocoletos. Initially, in addition to opening an exclusive high school for boys,
former junior college offered co-educational tertiary level education in Commerce,
Liberal Arts and two-year course in Secretarial Science. The only other school in the city
that provided college education than was Saint Joseph College, also run by a religious
group, the Augustinian sisters in the early years, the two administrations forged an
agreement not to other was specializing in and after about twenty year of peaceful co-
existence, their monopoly was threatened by the by the founding of other smaller
private institutions within the city and the nearby towns offering other baccalaureate
degrees and vocational courses. Such change, at that time somehow affected the
enrollment in both institutions. In the late 80’s, SSC-R de Cavite gained an upper hand
in the in the competition when the administration decided to offer courses in computer
science. Very few schools had the same courage because of the budget requirement for
these courses. However, realizing the growing market for computer education, and for
fear of the adverse effect of not responding to the changing needs of the market,
several other school decided to join the competition in technological education. The
challenges resulting from the branching out of big universities in nearby towns in town in
the province like Dasmarinas and Imus have eventually forced SSC-R de Cavite to be
more aggressive in its plans if desires to continues with its mission of providing
Cavitenos with quality Christian education. In order not be lose the market, SSC-R de
Cavite has to increase its courses offerings. In 1986, he high school depeducational to
accommodate young girls seeking admission into the school. In 1995, the institution
also opened its doors to graduate students by creating the Graduate School of Business
and had its first batch of graduates in 1997. To date the institution already has five main
colleges, namely the College of Accountancy, Business Administration and HRM; the
College of Criminology; the College of Engineering, Computer Science and Technology;
the College of Liberal Arts; and the College of Nursing. SSC-R de Cavite continuously
exerts its efforts to update its curricular offering, and offer new courses, that are
responsive to the changing needs and demands of its student clientele. In terms of the
development of the school’s facilities, SSC-R de Cavite like any institution started with a
humble beginning. At first, the school had only a single building, part of which was the
Fathers’ residence, with only 281 students from the High School and College
Departments Over the years, the development prompted the enhancement of the
college’s pool of educators, as the corresponding expansion and upgrading of its
facilities and curricular offerings. From its humble beginnings, San Sebestian College-
Recoletos de Cavite continued to evolve into one of the leading educational institutions
in the province of Cavite. In 1977, a four-story right-wing extension was built, where the
chapel (ground floor), additional classrooms, and the auditorium (fourth floor) are
located. The small gymnasium at the rear portion of the school was converted into the
Fathers’ residence in 1983, thereby allowing more rooms and offices for the school, out
of the portion vacated by the Fathers. As a response to the continuously increasing
student population, and the need to have more classrooms and facilities, an Industrial
Technology laboratory and a five-story building was constructed in 1995. The five-story
building housed the College and High School libraries, computer laboratories, mass
communications laboratory, criminology laboratory, mini gymnasium for PE classes, and
a spacious lobby. It was inaugurated on September 28, 1996. Months after the
inaugurated, the four-story building named St. Joseph Labrador, annexed to the St.
Ezekiel Moreno building, was constructed to accommodate the canteen, more
classrooms, and other facilities, such as the AVR, Conference Room, and additional
space for the College library. Presently, it also houses a Speech Laboratory, which was
constructed in 2001. In the year 2000, another six-story building was constructed, in
answer to the growing needs of the College of Engineering. It was inaugurated in 2001
and was named Our Lady of Consolation Building. It houses the different Engineering
laboratories, offices, and classrooms. Also, in the year 2001, San Sebastian College-
Recoletos marked new territory within the city of Cavite, with the fencing of the future
campus of the High School department, beside Samonte Park, PN. In 2004, a
gymnasium was erected over the new campus, and was named Recoletos 4 th
Centennial Gymnasium, because the year marked the 1st year of the triennium of the
celebration of 400 year of Recollect presence in the Philippines and Asia. The school
building that was designed to house the High School Department was completed in
February 2006, and in response to the derise of Caviteno parents to provide their
children the highly-esteemed Sebastian education from their formative years, this facility
would also accommodate. The SSC-R de Cavite’s new Grade School and Preschool
department. The initial offering of grade school levels I-IV and per-school level Nursery,
Kinder and Prep will be granted in school year 2006-2007, and is met San Sebastian
College-Recoletos, as a Catholic educational institution and an integral part of the
Augustinian Recoletos apostolates, has been committed to the total formation of man,

time, who are able to relate all human values and culture to the concept of salvation and
