Impact of diversity and conflict on performance in an organization level

PROBLEM STATEMENT

The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship of employee’s performance of the firms

with diversity and conflict. As far as this study is concerned MTN is taken as a case study operating

in Afghanistan. MTN Group is a multinational telecommunications group, operating in 22

countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. To make the study relevant, the multinational

corporation is picked up since they're not bound to the state-owned policies and are free to persuade

their own policies to engage employees from different cultures, ethnicity, age and nationalities to

promote a diverse workforce.

Diverse workforce can be beneficial or disadvantageous relying upon how it is overseen and

managed. However, the expectation can be associated with the organizations that are in binding

terms with the global competition and globalization forces, organizations will tend to protect all

their efforts in interpreting their diversity to bring positive production factors. However,

inadequately managed diversity may influence the employee performance negatively. It can cause

absence of attachment and disable the units to take actions that would be coordinated for higher

production level and cause organizations to perform inefficiency. Moreover, due to variations in

the experiences and encounters of the employees, they will perceive differently and will assume

certain situations in very different ways. This disequilibrium in perception and presumption can

bring issues for the companies. Besides that, different personnel will hold dissimilar opinions and

beliefs regarding practices and leadership styles within the companies that will in-turn cause issues

and conflicts that negatively influence the performance. The management of such a diverse

workplace has turned out to be significant for betterment and enjoying the competitive-edge. So,
the aim of this paper is to determine the relationship of employee’s performance of the firms with

diversity and conflict.

The research objectives of study are

1. To examine the effect of organizational conflict on employee’s performance.

2. To determine the impact of diversity on employee’s performance.

3. To understand which leadership style is the most effective in addressing conflict.

4. To make recommendations for the stated problem based on the findings from the study.
