Curiosity
Project
Science is the process of noticing things about the world and asking:
Why is that? How does that work? What would happen if I did this
instead? That means science is rooted in CURIOSITY! When we ask
questions about the world around us and seek answers to those questions, we are doing science!
Independently, in pairs, or in groups of three, you will identify a question related to biology.
Something that makes you curious! For example: Why does your stomach grumble? What happens
when you hit your funny bone? How does genetic testing work?
Each group will conduct research to seek an answer to their inquiry question. Recommended: Create a
Google Doc for your group and record your research findings there. Make sure you use credible
sources and keep track of which research source provided which information. Use OWL Purdue or
Citation Machine to help with citations.
Each group will prepare a brief presentation to teach the class about their findings. Be sure to include
what your inquiry question was and the answer you found through your research (or an explanation
of why an answer doesn’t exist). Remember: Make your presentation as interesting as possible!
And finally, reflect! Each individual will reflect on their experience with the Curiosity Project. What
was interesting? What was challenging? What would you do next time? How was your group?
