The different program directors for energy management have given me great insight as
to what the business school offers and how I can improve my knowledge in various areas of
business. Originally when thinking about business, energy management was not what I
associated business to entail. However, throughout this lab I learned the importance of energy
management in companies and how it affects finances and what companies are doing to switch
to more reliable forms of energy. From the program director speeches thus far, I have
understood that having knowledge about different parts of business is integral to showing
employers that you have knowledge, variety, and various skills that can be useful to future
employers. A future goal of mine is to create my own startup, these labs have helped me learn
how all the different business processes are connected and energy management specifically has
given me insight on how I can do my part in reducing energy consumption for my future
startup.
During Mr. Molina’s presentation, I learned how important and increasingly relevant the
topic of energy management has become in today’s society. As environment sustainability
becomes an increasing issue that more consumers seek solutions for, it is the job of companies
to provide solutions on how they will tackle the issue of environment sustainability. Energy
management is the use of technology of improve the energy performance of a business. Energy
management includes organizing roles and responsibilities and ensuring there are sufficient
resources available. Compliance with energy and climate change regulations is required of
businesses and the public sector. And taking into account how much energy will be used when
procuring buildings, services, and equipment.
Energy management and information systems go hand in hand in the sense that both
require applying technology and automated systems in order to research, measure, and
enhance a building’s performance and energy usage. EMIS (energy management information
systems) allows property owners and managers to see their energy usage and take action to
reduce waste.
This particular session has helped me realize how technology and energy management
are related and play role in society. Energy management continues to be a growing field and is
necessary in order to save companies money and cut waste in order to improve businesses
financially and the environment as well.
