Ribbon & Menu Setup

There are 2 ways to access commands in the menu bar

Press Cmd+Shift+? to open "Help" search menu and start Press Ctrl+F2 followed by the first letter of the menu
typing the command
Use arrows and enter to select from dropdown list Note: if Ctrl+F2 does not move focus to menu bar go to
System Preferences / Keyboard / Shortcuts / Keyboard
and check "Move focus to menu bar"
Excel for Mac 2011-2016

Example: Freeze Panes

Select cell where you wish to freeze panes


Press Cmd+shift+?, type "Freeze", arrow down to "Freeze Panes" and press "Enter" to access function
Press Cmd+shift+?, type "Unfreeze", arrow down to "Unfreeze Panes" and press "Enter" to access function

Note: Only necessary to enter underlined portion of word to access functions (autocomplete will recognize function)

To maximize the screen space consider hiding the ribbons

Press Cmd+Shift+?, type "Ribbon", press down arrow and then "Enter"

Calculation Settings Mac vs. Windows


Mac Excel tends to utilize the search box
Go to Excel Preferences (Cmd+,), type "Calculation" in search box for navigation vs. hotkeys in Windows Excel

Changing Macro Security

Go to Excel Preferences (Cmd+,), type "Security" in search box


- Press tab twice and then the Spacebar to Check "Warn before opening a file that contains macros"

Accessing the Office button or File tab (Alt F)

Excel 2010 - 2016 Excel 2007

Example: Freeze Panes

Select cell where you wish to freeze panes


Press Alt to activate the badges, press W for "View", press F for "freeze panes", press "Enter" or "F" again
Repeat to "Unfreeze panes"

Note: When entering key paths, you do not need to hold the "Alt" key down

To maximize the screen space consider hiding the ribbons

Toggle using Ctrl+F1

Calculation Settings

Excel 2010-2016: File Tab, Options, Formula (Alt F T F)


- ''Automatic'' or ''Automatic except for data tables'' (Alt+A or Alt+D)
- "Enable iterative calculation" (Alt+I) should be checked

Changing Macro Security

Excel 2010-2016: File Tab, Options, Trust Center, Trust Center Settings (Alt F T T, Alt+T)
- Press tab twice and then the Spacebar to Check "Warn before opening a file that contains macros
- Go to Macros Settings and set it to ''Disable all macros with notification'' (Alt+D)
