Accommodations: When planning for the needs of our students, we have devised a unit of

instruction that can be adapted to best suit all types of learners. We understand that
accommodations will be completed when necessary and will match the students educational
plan. In our unit of instruction, we have two English Language Learners, two students with
special needs, and two gifted and talented students. For our two English Language Learners, if
needed they will receive worksheets that are dual-language to help them practice their skills in
within English while keeping their native language. We understand the importance of our
students and their culture which influenced us to incorporate the practice of both languages
within our class. Our main goal for our English Language Learner students is to encourage their
growth educationally with the use of English and their native language. We plan to speak at a
slower pace and use hand motions to signify what we are talking about. The students will
participate in many group discussions that allow for them to gain more practice verbally with
English. For our two students with special needs, accommodations will be made according to the
student’s Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) or their 504 plan. We understand that all our
students deserve the right to the same education as their peers, so we devised a plan to best
accommodates for their growth and success within the classroom. In our classroom, we will have
noise cancelling headphones that can be used whenever the student feels they need them. There
will be a cool down corner devised to be a safe relaxing space for the students to escape when
feeling overwhelmed or anxious. If needed, they will be allowed to use Chromebooks when
completing assignments. During the lessons, both the ELL students and students with special
needs will be paired with students qualified to provide them with extra assistance. This will
allow for the inclusion of all students and help produce more community based learning
environment. For our two gifted and talented students, we will meet with them daily or weekly to
set realistic goals according to their abilities. We will not always offer extra work for these
students, however, we may have them practice at meeting similar standards set for the grade
level above us. That way they are still included in our classroom assignments but practicing
skills that correlate with their learning abilities. If needed, they can assist students who are
having trouble meeting specific standards and can utilize their understanding to teach their peers.
Through accommodating for all student needs, we hope to create a classroom environment that is
inviting and comfortable for all types of students. Our main goal is to include each student in the
process of learning and to provide a place where they receive the best teaching according to their
needs.
