Discussion

Our study was done at the main road in front of UTHM campus Pagoh the direction
from Pekan Pagoh to Pancor. It was done on Tuesday from 9.00 am to 10.00 am with sunny
weather. The study involved 260 number of data which includes cars, buses, vans, lorry
motorcycles, and heavy truck. The road was chosen because it is often used by the road users
in UTHM. Besides, the location was chosen to observe the speed trend of vehicles when there
are speed hump. We have done the observation by shooting the vehicles used the radar gun.
This is to ensure that the result to be more accurate.

Based on the data calculation done, it can be found that the arithmetic mean speed is
62.5 km/h. Meanwhile, the median speed is 62.71km/h has been calculated using its respective
formula. At the 15th, 50th and 85th-perentile speeds are 37.5 km/h, 52.8 km/h and 66.5 km/h
respectively which is obtained from the cumulative frequency distribution curve. From this it’s
speed indicates the speed that most motorists on the road consider safe and reasonable under
ideal conditions. The standard deviation obtained from the calculation is 14.5 km/h.

Next, the highest percentage speed is at range between 55 km/h to 65km/h with
frequency of 59 vehicles as shown one frequency distribution curve. According to Garber &
Hoel, 2009 the term 'Pace' refers to the range of speed which shows the biggest number of
observations. The normal distribution curves were used to estimate the pace of vehicular travel
on the road traffic and then projections made to ascertain the percentage of traffic traveling at
the specified pace.

In our observation, a set of speed data between 20 to 100 km/h. Thus, we decided to
use an interval of 5 km/h. The percentage of pace is 28% at speed 54 km/h to 64 km/h since it
shows the highest number of observations. Based on the observation vehicle speed at this
location the potential accident to be occur are higher it is because many student are cross the
road since at the road there are no zebra crossing. So that, this road are not safety for student
to cross the road. For safety and precaution this road need to do some improvement, such as
warning sign for slow down the speed and zebra crossing for student should be provided.
