M.S. Word is a complete office purpose
software package that is necessary for any
office, organization and business purpose
that is why it is called office suit software
package which is Microsoft based company
product.

M.S. Word is a “Word Processing
Software Package”, developed by
Microsoft Corporation, U.S.A. The user
can write, edit, format & print
document in an easy way. With the help
of M.S. Word, user can produce high
quality document. It replaces pen, paper
& dictionary. It helps the user to write
letters, memos (memorandum), faxes,
newsletters and books etc. It also helps
the user to create professional looking
document. M.S. Word follows these
features that are called WYSIWYG (What
You See Is What You Get).
FEATURES OF MICROSOFT WORD:
(1.) It gives the facility to make
hyperlink.
(2.) It helps to develop document in all
regional languages such as Gujarati,
Hindi, Urdu, Marathi etc.
(3.) M.S. Word checks spelling &
grammar as the user types. It also
improves the document quality &
makes the error free document.
(4.) It helps to menu tools for make
document look attractive such as
file, format etc.
(5.) M.S. Word provides mail-merge
feature that creates by combining
information from two different files.
(6.) M.S. Word provides rich collection of
3-D (3-Dimensions) shapes creating
tools, auto shapes, shadow effect,
textures & semi-transparent fills.
(7.) With the help of M.S. Word we make
our document look attractive such as
font color, font size, underlined,
bold, italics, etc.
(8.) It provides online help.

Components of
MICROSOFT WORD
(A.)TITLE BAR
Title bar display the document
name. It display at the top of the screen.
(B.)MENU BAR
It is present just below the title bar.
It contents is dropdown menu like file,
insert, format etc.
(C.)TOOL BAR
There are two toolbars are display at
the first time.
(1.) Standard Toolbar
(2.) Formatting Toolbar
(D.)RULER
It helps to adjust margin & width of
the document. There are two types of
ruler-
(1.) Horizontal Ruler
(2.) Vertical Ruler
(E.)RIBBON
In ribbon, there are many buttons/
options that are grouped into categories
according to Tab such as font, paragraph,
styles etc. which are the groups of Home
Tab.
Ribbon contains commands organized in
three components-
(1.) TABS: - They appear across the top of
the ribbon and contain groups of
related commands. E.g. Home, Insert
etc.
(2.) GROUPS: - They organized related
commands; each group name appears
below the group on the ribbon. For
e.g. Group of commands related to
fonts etc.
(3.) COMMANDS: - Commands appear
within each document.
(F.)OFFICE BUTTON
It is found in the top left corner of
M.S. Word Window. When the office
button is clicked, many of the options
such as New, Open, Save As, Save, Print,
Send, Publish, Close etc. can be found.
(G.)QUICK ACCESS
TOOLBAR
It is placed to the right of the Office
Button. It contains shortcut for the
commonly used tools like Save, Undo,
Redo etc. It can also be placed below the
ribbon also.
(H.)TABS
Tabs are similar to the Menu System
of M.S. Word 2003. There are different
types of Tabs attached-
(1.) HOME: - This Tab is used to change
font, styles, setting of paragraph etc.
(2.) INSERT: - This Tab is used to insert
Page Breaks, Tables, Links, Header &
Footer and symbols etc.
(3.) PAGE LAYOUT: - This Tab is used to
change themes, margins, orientation,
insert page border, paragraph (format)
etc.
(4.) REFERENCES: - This Tab is used to
insert Table, Footnotes, Index etc.
(5.) MAILING: - It is used to create
Envelops, Labels, start Mail-merge etc.
(6.) REVIEW: - It is used for Proofing,
Comments, Tracking, Comparing the
documents etc.
(7.) VIEW: - It is used to change the
outline or Draft views, Display the
ruler, Zoom, Switch windows etc.
(I.)SCROLL BAR
Scroll Bar is used to view the whole
active window. There are two types of
scroll bar-
(1.) Horizontal Scroll Bar
(2.) Vertical Scroll Bar
(J.)STATUS BAR
It is displayed on the bottom of the
window and used to view the information
such as Page number, Line number,
Section number, Column number, Current
page number & Number of pages in the
document.
(K.)TASKPANE
It shows the current task. It is
always display on the right side of the
screen. (Ctrl+F1) in M.S. Word 2003.
(L.)CONTROL BUTTON
There are three types of control
buttons-
(1.) Minimize Button (_)
(2.) Maximize Button/ Restore down
button□
(3.) Close Button×
(M.)ZOOM Control
Zoom Control consists of a slider.
You can slide it left or right to zoom in or
out, to increase or decrease the zoom
factor.
(N.)FILE MENU
(1.) NEW: - To open a blank document.
(2.) OPEN: - To open an existing
Document.
