Oscillations
Oscillations are seen everywhere.They are integral part of
classical and quantum physics.

Oscillations/Vibrations are characterised by the periodic


nature of the motion.

Sinusoidal oscillations
• Special kind of oscillation where oscillation behaves like
sin or cos functions. x(t) = A cos(ωt + ϕ) or
x(t) = A sin(ωt + ϕ)

• We call ωt + ϕ as the phase of the oscillation and A is the


maximum displacement, called as Amplitude of
oscillation.

• In fact no physical system undergo true sinusoidal


oscillations but many systems undergo such oscillations
under approximations.
