SUMMARY
R. RUIDÍAZ
G. SVENSSON C. ROLDÁN
B. SMITH K. LEERDAM
S. FREI
VANISHING POINT
Left flank side more associative and active with the ball with B. Smith as wide
support, also because N. Lodeiro tends to drop in that area.
Right flank side as the vanishing point (rivals defensive “weak” side. Leerdam
with a lot of space to fill like in first goal.
VANISHING POINT
Again the left side was more active with B. Smith, J. Morris and N. Lodeiro,
who continuously is creating triangles and giving support to his teammates
moving through lines and dropping near the left flank.
Center backs and center midfielders almost doesn’t relate to each other, this
talks a lot about how Seattle attack: they try to get ball as quick as possible
on the wings and arrive to the box.
SYMMETRY Jones location gave Seattle more symmetry on the rivals “weak” side.

vs. REAL SALT LAKE
VANISHING POINT
A space occupation for a lot of direct play and to win second balls, not for a
build - up based on possession or by creating numerical and positional
superiorities.
Definitively wasn’t a symmetric block because the team was so open and
wide.
SYMMETRY N. Lodeiro again was the more associative player on the team by creating
triangles and rhombus.

S. FREI PASSING DISTRIBUTION
vs. TORONTO FC
Most of the long ball distribution goes to the right side where Jones or Lodeiro are located, but mainly
because S. Frei strong foot is the right one, so the passing angle is easier or more natural for him than to
cross the ball to the left side.

ATTACKING SIDES
OVERALL
HOME
AWAY
As we can see on the video of offensive phase, the left is the more active and associative one. The
stats also show that behavior. Smith is a very active wide support and Lodeiro with his mobility
through lines and dropping near the left flank can explain this.
Also because during counterattacks, J. Morris is a huge asset on the left wing.

DATA THAT EXPLAIN THE GAME: POSSESSION, PASSING ACCURACY AND LONG BALL RELEASES
Seattle Sounders is a team that doesn’t need long possessions to attack, that’s why they have so low
percentages. Because of that they prefer long balls to activate direct play and counterattacks. Maybe
that’s why the passing accuracy is also lower than his rivals.
They prefer to fold back, be compact and provoke mistakes to run towards goal.

DATA THAT EXPLAIN THE GAME: RELATION POSSESSION AND AVERAGE LENGTH BETWEEN LINES
POSSESSION
AVERAGE
LENGTH
When the possession percentage goes up, so the lines get separated to play and occupy spaces in attack.
Seattle has low possession percentages, that’s a factor that could explain why are so compact.
