Greek fire was incendiary weapon used by the Byzantine empire beginning c.672.

It
was used to fire the ship of the enemy. It consist of a combustible compound emitted by
a flame throwing weapon. Some historian said the this fire can ignited on while the ship
is floating on water. The byzantine soldier used this weapon to won on naval battles.
The byzantine empire has called this weapon different names like sea fire, roman fire,
war fire, manufactured fire or liquid fire.
