of communication such as gestures, signs, and symbols. Non verbal and verbal
communication takes place. It’s a two way process where senders and receivers
do the same in return. Everyday talk and interactions are also a form of
transactional model. Factors affecting this model are commonly the noise, level
of attention or barriers. Without the participant being on the same page, noise
creeps in since communication is simultaneous. The message might be lost,
misinterpreted or misunderstood. It interferes with communication. It includes
Physical noise like loud kids who don’t want to sleep. Physiological noise
includes talking too fast, talking too slow and mumbling. Psychological noise
example is wandering thoughts and sarcasms. Semantic noise, jargons and
abstract ideas. But you can lessen the noise by making your language more
precise. Choose words that can be easily understood by your listeners. Practice
speaking. Invite feedback. Once you heard it from your listeners, you can convey
your message clearer. Important role of this is that it’s used for interpersonal
communication, communicators can interchange their roles. It’s also the most
simple and applicable forms of communication.
Known as the first model of communication. It focuses on public speaking than
interpersonal communication like speeches. The speaker should have effect on
audience mind and convince their thoughts towards him. Though, the presence
of feedback is not observable since it’s a one way from speaker to audience. This
model can only be used in public speaking. Lack of attention is also a barrier in
this model. Another is the environment the audience can’t focus if the venue or
place is not comfortable or a lot nuisance is taking place. Strengths are that it can
enhance one’s public speaking skills. The receiver and speaker also act in a
responsible manner since it is the responsibility of the audience to absorb what
the speaker is trying to convey. And it’s the speaker’s role to deliver the message
to the audience. Factor affecting this model is that the anxiety of the speaker in
public speaking. Stuttering is an interruption to the flow of speech. Another is
jargons the audience may take time to understand the words or what the speaker
is trying to say. In order to be a good speaker, you need to have passion. You
have to be yourself in the stage. Practice not memorization. Speak in natural
voice. Keep it short and sweet, connect with your audience and avoid repetition.
To reduce anxiety, do deep breathing to minimize. For stuttering, make a note of
these trigger words and find alternatives to use. And practice techniques and
work on long term strategies.
