Mobile Broadband: Software Upgrade User Guide E160G

Why Upgrade your E160G Internet Key Modem?

The software on your Modem is divided into two parts:

1. Connection Manager (also known as dashboard or Modem Manager)


2. Firmware (also known as Modem Update).

· The latest version of Connection Manager has a great new look and feel and supports SMS for both
Windows and MAC!
· The latest firmware may improve the performance of your modem in particular using some gaming
sites or opening some web pages.

Depending on when you bought your modem you may already have the latest versions, so there’s no need to
upgrade!

How do I check which software version I have?

Open the Connection Manager with the Modem connected:

For Firmware version: Go to Tools > Diagnostics (see the number in red circle below):

For Connection Manager version: Go to Help > About (see the number in red circle below):

The latest versions of software are (as of 01/2009):

Firmware: 11.604.21.00.156
Connection Manager Windows: 11.002.03.14.100
Connection Manager MAC: 11.110.02.10.100

If your versions differ, we recommend you upgrade:

Please note: This Software is ONLY for an E160G Modem (please check the back of your Modem if you are
unsure which model number you have).

Upgrade Installation Guide

Firstly, you will need to download the software from Three website and save it to your PC.
Software updates are available at the following link: Mobile Broadband Software Updates

There are 3 Steps to upgrading your modem:

1. Upgrading the Firmware on your modem (Modem Update).

2. Upgrading the Connection Manager on your modem.

3. Upgrading the Connection Manager on your computer.

Please Note: for MAC users: this upgrade can only be done using a Windows Operating system.

Part 1: Upgrading the Firmware:

1. Insert your modem into your PC. The Modem will be recognised by your system and the
Connection Manager will automatically launch.

2. Close the Connection Manager to continue with the Firmware update.

3. Double click the file named “E160Update_11.604.21.00.156.B409” from within the zip archive. You
may see a security warning; click Run to continue the upgrade.

4. Click on I Accept, then click Next:

5. This will start the search for the connected Modem:

6. Once the device is detected, you will see your modem’s details:

7. After you click next, you will see a warning screen:

8. Click Start to begin the installation.

9. The firmware update will commence. It can take up to 5 minutes to complete.

10. Click OK to confirm the update success, and then click Finish to exit the updater application.

Part 2: Upgrading the Connection Manager your Modem:

To upgrade the Connection Manager that is stored on the modem, please follow the steps below:

1. Wait for your modem to be recognised by your system, and your Connection Manager to
automatically start.
2. Close the Connection Manager so that it is not running.
3. Double click the file named “UTPS11.002.03.14.100_ MAC11.110.02.10.100.exe ” from within the zip
archive. You may see a security warning, click Run to continue the installation.
4. Select “I Accept The Agreement” and then click Next.

5. This will start the search for the connected Modem:

6. Once the Modem is detected, click Next:

7. You will then get a warning screen, click Start to begin:

8. The updated Connection Manager will then be installed your Modem, this may take several minutes.

9. Once completed, click OK and then Finish. You have now upgraded your Connection Manager on your
Modem. Please see Part 3 to update the connection manager on your PC.

PART 3: Upgrading the 3 Connection Manager on your PC:

1. Disconnect the your Modem from your computer.


2. Un-install your Connection Manager on your computer by going to:
Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > 3 MobileBroadband > Remove
3. Reconnect your Modem and follow the prompts to re-install the updated Connection Manager onto
your PC.
