NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, HAMIRPUR

INTRODUCTION - National Institute of Technology Hamirpur is one of the 31 NITs all over the
India. NITs colleges were started to be build after 1950s to meet the trained man demand of the
developing India in the field industries and technologies. Similarly NIT Hamirpur was established in
1986 and now it is ranked in the top 15 NITs. It offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate
education in engineering, architecture, science and humanities.

LOCATION - It is situated in the Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh. Hamirpur is at an altitude


of 785 meters. It has pine and mango trees forests which provide greenery and fresh air to its
environment. The campus of NIT Hamirpur is 4km away from the Hamirpur’s bus stand.

CAMPUS AREA - The campus area of NIT Hamirpur is so much attractive, clean, green and
beautiful. You can feel the nature’s beauty there. Its campus has spread in 320 acres area of land .The
campus area is well furnished with roads, street lights, water supply and underground drainage.

INFRASTRUCTURE - NIT Hamirpur have too good and designed infrastructure. It has
following things in it

 Lecture Hall- It has about 25 classrooms. Each classroom is well maintained with
cameras, benches which can hold more than 100 students comfortably at a time,
projector, air conditioner and blackboard. It also has a lift for physically disabled
students.

 Academic departments - It has different departmental buildings for different


branches of engineering and basic science. All the departments have the required
labs, offices and research rooms. Following are the departments:

4. Electronics and communication engineering
5. Electrical engineering
6. Mechanical engineering
7. Material science and engineering

 ACADEMIC CENTRES – There are separate buildings for each academic centre. These
centres are helpful to the students in their study and many other activities.

They are:-

1. Centre for energy and environmental engineering


2. Central facilities and cells
3. Computer centre
4. Health centre
5. Central library
6. Central workshop
7. Auditorium
8. Guest house
9. Central security
10. Central transport
11. Post office
12. Bank
 HOSTELS - It has 12 hostels. Out of 12 hostels four are girl’s hostels. All the hostels are
good enough. They have all the facilities well maintained for the students like rooms, washrooms,
reading rooms, food, gym and sports equipments. Rooms are five lets, fourlet, triplet, doublet and
singlet. Rooms are alloted according to year of graduation.
 OTHER FACILITIES - It has a big sports playground, open air theatre, canteens, faculty
quaters, students park.

CLUBS AND SOCIETIES- There are many clubs and societies which remains active during
cultural and technical fests accordingly. There are two fests held every year that are Hill’ffair - cultural
fest and Nimbus- technical fest. Following are the names of different clubs and societies in NIT

OTHER ACTIVITIES - Students are provided with many other activities with which they can
learn something new and they are NCC, NSS, yoga, karate etc .

ADMISSION PROCESS : This college offers undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD to the
students. All the three courses have the different procedure for the admission.

 ADMISSION TO UNDERGRADUATE COURSES- The admission to


various undergraduate courses is done once a year during june-july. B.tech
admission is done by JOSSA and CSAB counseling process on the basis of
students marks in JEE MAINS. B.arch admissions are done by CoA counseling on
the basis of NATA entrance exam.

 ADMISSION TO POSTGRADUATE COURSES - The admission to post


graduate courses is done by CCMN counseling on the basis of GATE, IIT JAM
and CMAT scores for M.tech, M.sc. and MBA respectively. And eligibility criteria
is scoring minimum 6.5 CGPA on point scale of 10 for general / obc and 6.0 CGPA
for sc/st in undergraduate course

 ADMISSION TO Ph.D. COURSES - Candidates who wish to persue Ph.D.


have to apply online to the respective institute site and then it has two stages. In
first stage student have to give online screening test of 60 marks mcq type
questions. And in second stage student have to give interview and presentation in
front of departmental selection committee. Minimum eligibility criteria is having
CGPA 6.5 in postgraduation.
