Subject: Recommendation on expanding marketing material

I have joined summer internship two months ago after completing Post baccalaureate diploma
in tourism management from Thompson Rivers University. I have been living in Kamloops for 17
years. Having seen Kamloops develop as a huge tourism destination that it is, I am keenly
interested in seeing the growth of the region further.

I have seen the marketing manifesto of the summer’s tourism development and feel there are
slight improvements which, if made, can deliver positive results. Since Kamloops has always
been promoted as sports destination and a place for sports events. Kamloops has always been
promoted as the Tournament Capital of Canada. However, with changing times, the sports
enthusiasts and spectators have also changed. The new age sports enthusiasts bring their
families along, hence, the city needs to expand its marketing focus towards various age groups
and interests, which do not limit to mere sports spectators.

Although sports is nearly inseparable from the history of Kamloops, there are various other
aspects in which the city has developed to cater to numerous tourism interests. Our tourism
department’s own research shows that the sports spectators from across the province have
started bringing their families along over the past couple decade. To cater to the families along
with the sports enthusiasts, we can add the following prospects in our marketing agenda:

 Promote Local restaurants and wine estates

 Focus on leisure activities like trampoline parks for kids and preteens.
 Improve and promote hiking and biking trails and readily provide biking equipment for
rent to the tourists.
 Organise road shows throughout summer to enrich tourists with the rich cultural and
historical heritage that Kamloops holds.

While financing marketing promoting Kamloops as sports destination has worked for years and
will undoubtedly still work, but diversifying finances towards promoting other tourist activities in
Kamloops can bring us a lot more revenue through tourism.
