TESTING:
Takeout the concrete specimen from curing tank at least three hours before testing.
Do capping of specimen with Sulphur or plaster of Paris before testing and place it aside for at
least three hours.
Note down the cross-sectional dimensions volume measure weight of specimen.
Find the density of concrete specimen it should be greater than 800Kg/m3.otherwise discard
samples. ρ = M/V > 800Kg/m3.
Now place the specimen in compression testing machine and apply loading at rate of 0.25 ± 0.05
MPa/sec.
Note down the maximum value of load (P).
Find out the compressive strength of concrete as follows:
σ = P/A

COMMENTS:
In this experiment we determine the compressive strength of cylindrical specimens and cubes. We
perform 7, 14 & 28 days test on the specimen. By performing the experiment we determine that
cube have more compressive strength than cylinder because cube have equal dimension and bear
more load than cylinder. This method is limited to concrete having a density at least 800 kg/m 3.The
28 days compressive strength (fc’) of cylinders is normally used in design. In these specimen we
observe that cylinder and cube have column failure.
