My Journey In Nursing
Good day, I am Ivan Phillip Roque a nursing student of Our Lady of Fatima University-
Valenzuela Campus, I am 20 years old and hopefully the last year of nursing school in short I am a grad
“waiting” student.
At the orientation held last November 13, 2019 we are tasked to do some writings about our
journey in nursing school. To start nursing was not really my first choice of program to be with neither
my second. Engineering was really the center of my attention because of my father is an engineer, he told
me that if I am sure about my choice because he doesn’t want to waste money and time. I agreed to that
and had to enroll in a school in manila in short I have to travel back and forth from home to school every
day. The first semester goes really smooth because my grades are acceptable and my father was happy
about it but the second semester comes I met bad influence friends and they are keep on telling me to not
to go to school but wo are going to some clubs, bar and do some unnecessary things that a teen must not
do. Before that semester ends my father talks to me about what happened to me and I said all those things
he even asked ne if I want to still continue my engineering studies answered no. And my grandfather
advices me to take nursing in a sense of he will take care of me after I graduated he even said to me that
after I graduated he will take me to California where I should practice my nursing skills. And I agreed to
that. I had to finished all the requirements I must passed to transfer to another school. And after
completing all requirements. My cousins talked to me to be serious in this time.
June 2016 the start of my nursing journey and this is the adaptation phase and also meeting some
new friends that hopefully not the same as my “friends” in my previous school. This year is exciting
because of new way of teaching, new friends, new college, new places, new people to be with. The next
year is all about firsts Related Learning Experience, first capping and pinning ceremony, first community
exposure, first vaccination, first health teaching and etc. This is also an adjusting phase for me because of
different exposure this is to differ teachings in the book from the reality setting. This is also full of
excitement because of Maternal and Child Nursing where we have our duty in Delivery room where I
assist in delivering baby. And to properly take care of pediatric nursing.
The third year of my nursing journey is my favorite part in terms of academes and clinical duties
because of Dr. Maroma being our lecturer and other professors. The most of my favorite part of being a
third year nursing student is having duty in Operating Room nursing in terns of less patient to nurse
contact. And lastly, the last (hopefully) step in achieving my goal the last year of nursing school being a
fourth year is not a joke because of having our clinicals Monday to Friday and having review class after.
According to Luke 1:37 For there are nothing is impossible with God. Hopefully this is the last year and
as the saying in College of Nursing “Graduate on time and pass the board exam on one take” I should
keep that in mind. This is Ivan Phillip Roque signing off (hopefully), 2020
