On a lovely day, when the sky was blue, the birds sang and dance through the
sky, people were going to work and school. Tom was running as fast as he could,
but he wasn’t able to get to school on time. He gave Mr. Dobbins an apple, which
everyone getting to school late has to do so. He made an excuse of having talked to
Huckle Berry Finn, but his teacher, Mr. Dobbins, didn’t believe him. Therefore, he
had to sit with the girls. The girl he sat next to, Rebecca Thatcher, hated Mr.
Dobbins too, so she drew a picture of the teacher. When she accidentally dropped
it on the class’s floor, Mr. Dobbins noticed it and thought that he was insulted. He
then asked every single student to check who did it. Everyone was terrified one of
them could be hit by a rod that hurt so much. When he suspected her, Rebecca, and
found out that she did it, Tom then immediately stood up and told that it had been
him who had done that. She was surprised that Tom had stood up for her. Tom was
punished violently by Mr. Dobbins, and she burst into tears while seeing Tom
taking the responsibility for her. After the punishment was over, she wrote on the
board “How could you be so novel?” and Tom smiled and kept thinking about her
writing that to him.
