Manual References

This manual was designed as an Addendum to the Seeker SPR Software Manual
Version 2.0 – Basic System.

Its primary focus is the 3D feature and will identify the differences in screen displays
and software functionality.

Requirements

A License is required to use the 3D feature of the Seeker SPR.

For the area being surveyed, it is necessary that the lines being acquired are done
so from left to right (see diagrams below), in order to view the 3D scan in the same
order as the data was acquired.

3D allows survey data to be acquired in two modes:

Single Direction – Covers an area using the same direction. A zero line is
required to mark the start of every single line.

Zig Zag – Covers an area using alternating direction. Two zero lines are
required when starting in Zig Zag mode.

About Licenses

Your Seeker SPR system is equipped with the GPS Software and requires an active
license key in order to function. The License Key may only be obtained from
SubSurface Imaging Systems, Inc.

Licenses are required for:

Desktop Mode – for use on a separate PC for file viewing only

GPS – for use with the optional GPS software
3D – for use with the optional three dimension viewing software

Below are the steps to load your License Key:

Touch the Settings button. The Settings menu will display.

Touch the Licenses button.

The Licenses entry screen will display:

If you know the license key, enter it in the white box then touch the Add button.

If the license key has been provided in a file, touch the Load From File button.
Using the Microsoft Windows File Manager, find and select the file called:
C:\Release\license.usl

Touch the Open button.

When the License box displays, touch the Add button followed by the OK button.

Differences with 3D

An Overview

The SeekerSPR 3D allows the user to record a number of Lines and display them in
a 3-D view.

New Survey

The Multi Line (Area) must be selected for 3D to function.

Select the “Pattern” that will be used while surveying the area of interest. It is
recommended to use the single direction mode wherever possible as it only requires
a single zero line and the length of each path is not critical. Zig Zag mode should
only be used if it is too time consuming to move long distances back to the zero line
without recording survey data.

Identify the “Line Separation” required between each pass. The Line Separation
should be chosen carefully as too small a separation would take too much time to
acquire; too wide a separation might miss detecting objects. Unless you are looking
for very small targets, it is recommended to select a Line Separation equivalent to
the width of the Antenna used.

Touch OK to open the survey screen. The following message will display:

Touch OK

Touch the Record button and being to move the SeekerSPR forward. The Record
button will change to Pause and Resume as you begin to acquire data. Touch
Pause to temporarily stop recording, then touch Resume to continue recording.
When you have completed the first line of scan, press Stop.

Next, choose whether to view the data as it was originally recorded or whether to
view migrated data. Migrating the data applies a Stolt migration algorithm which
compensates for the spread of the radar signal which causes targets to appear as
hyperbolas. This algorithm attempts to construct an image of targets in their true
locations from the reflected images. It works best when scanning consistent
mediums. Also, 3D migrated data tends to be most useful when survey lines are
spaced very closely together and lined up consistently.

It is possible to apply the remove average algorithm before the migration algorithm or
after. In most cases, it will not make a difference what order it is applied in.

It is necessary to select a velocity value for the migration algorithm. It can take some
trial and error to find the optimal velocity correction for a given survey.

If a file has been migrated before, it is possible to select ‘last settings’ to display the
data with the same migration settings previously used.

Undermigrated data will still appear somewhat hyperbola shaped.

Overmigrated data will appear as inverted hyperbolas.

In properly migrated data, targets will appear as close to points as possible and may
have faint upward tails, but the center of each target should be a clear point.

Once all initial settings are selected, the file is displayed using “Physical
Dimensions,” which displays the data to scale.

Touch the “Data Dimensions” button to display the data with the same aspect ratio it
is displayed in normal acquisition mode.

Use the navigation buttons to view the data in differing 3D modes.
