1a. A fair coin is tossed four times.

Find the probability that a prime number or a number divisible by

6 occurs. (i) exactly two times (ii) at least three times.
b. A balance coin is tossed thrice, let x denote the number of times that head appears, obtain:
(i) probability distribution of x (ii) the mean and variance of x

2a. In a manufacturing industry, for every 10,000 bulb produced 5 were found defective. If 500 bulbs were
produced, find the probability that: (i) none is defective (ii) at most 2 are defective
(iii) at most 3 are defective.
b. It is known that 10% of certain self -winding wrist watches will have to be replaced under warrantee.
If 2500 wrist watches are sold, find:
(i) the expected value (ii) the expected value of the number of wrist watches that must be replaced
under the warrantee.
c. Enumerate the properties of Poison experiment

3b. In order to study the extent of drug usage in a population,150 people in social class A, 135 in B,
125 in C, and 100 in D , were selected and classified according to extent of drug usage. The
Results are presented in the table below.
Social Extent of Drug Usage
Class Casual Moderate Heavy Total
A 43 57 50 150
B 20 57 58 135
C 24 56 45 125
D 33 45 22 100
Total 120 215 175 510
Based on the data, can it be concluded that extent of drug usage is different across classes?
at α = 0.05

4a. (i) Sketch ANOVA table of Randomized Complete Block Design

(ii) Total serum complement activity (CH5O) was analyzed in 11 apparently healthy
subjects and 9 subjects with disease.
The following result were obtained:
With disease 56 62 54 51 67 69 58 63 60
Normal 63 70 71 62 60 56 75 64 72 68 66

Previous experiment has suggested that the standard deviation of serum complement
activity (CH5O) is four. Test whether the serum complement activity for subjects with the
disease is significantly less than that of subjects that are normal. Let α =0.01.
b. State the properties of Normal distribution.
