I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson students will be able to…
• Compare and contrast literary sections
• Compare and contract literary and characters
• Recognize conflict and resolution
• Identify the theme
III. Procedure:
Opening:
• Welcome students and ask for a green checkmark if they can here my voice.
• Ask for any questions about Unit 4 so far.
o Allow two minutes for questions
o Remind kids that questions need to me about the Unit
o Redirect students to help the ask the right questions
• Go over student goals (objectives) of the lesson.
o Ask students of they have any questions about objectives.
• Talk about Greek Heroes and summaries the four myths already read.
o I will read summaries of each myth out loud.
o Power Point slides will have the summaries displayed for students to
follow along as I read.
• Review the meaning of conflict and resolution.
o Power Point slides will have information that I will read out loud
Lesson:
• Compare the heroes as a class by filling out a graphic organizer.
o How did the story end?
o What do you think is the theme?
o How did the ending develop the theme?
▪ Organizer will be displayed on Power Point slide
▪ Students will have a copy printed out and fill out in pencil as I
fill out in Power Point.
▪ Ask for green checkmark from students to tell me they are
done filling it out.
• Compare the conflict and resolution of each hero.
o Atalanta and Theseus
o Perseus and Theseus
o Perseus and Jason
• Talk about how conflict and resolution can determine the theme of a story.
o Allow students to talk to each other (give them 2 minutes).
o Go over second graphic organizer with students
o Fill out graphic organizer as a class.
▪ Organizer will be displayed on Power Point slide
▪ Students will have a copy printed out and fill out in pencil as I
fill out in Power Point.
▪ Ask for green checkmark from students to tell me they are
done filling it out.
IV. Assessment:
• Students will take Unit 4 Lesson 11 quiz after the complete solo online lesson.
o Grade for understanding and determine what needs to be retaught.
V. Instructional Levels and Strategies
• Below Basic (BB) Students
o This lesson may take more than one Class Connect session these
students meet with me 4 times a week.
o Students will need a detailed summary of the four myths read out loud
to them.
o Students will need to be encouraged to participate and give
information for graphic organizer.
o I would need to fill out the graphic organizer on Power Point and
students will copy.
o I will need to constantly ask for a green checkmark for understanding
and/or ask if there are any questions so far.
• Basic Students
o This lesson might not take more than one Class Connect session.
o Students will be asked to read the summaries out loud.
o Students will have the option to answer questions using the
microphone or chat tools.
o Students will be encourage but not required to fill out the graphic
organizer on Power Point, I will guide with information and spelling
when needed.
o I will occasionally ask for a green checkmark for understanding and/or
ask if there are any questions so far.
• Proficient and Advanced Students
o This lesson will only take one Class Connect session.
o Students will be required to read the summaries out loud.
o Students will have the option to answer questions using the
microphone or chat tools.
o Students will fill out the graphic organizer on Power Point.
o I will occasionally ask for a green checkmark for understanding and/or
ask if there are any questions so far.
o I will ask students to make personal connections on conflict and
resolution. How did it affect their lives? What theme do they see
develop from their conflict and resolution?
