ASSESSMENT OF THE EMPLOYABILITY OF UB GRADUATE SCHOLARS (AY 2014-2015

TO 2016-2017)
A Critique

The study entitled “Assessment of the Employability of UB Graduate Scholars (AY 2014-
2015 to 2016-2017) seeks to determine if the University is able to practice its vision and
objective towards scholarship through knowing the number of graduate scholars who are
already employed and if their jobs are aligned with the program that they finished in the
University.

Having a graduate tracer study is common to universities but with this study, having a
graduate scholar tracer study is even better to know if such scholars were able to maintain the
employability traits honed in the university. However, this study fails to provide depth to the
information that is already available in the university. With regards to the technicality of the
study, there are some missing components or insufficiencies found in the study.

In the introduction part, the detailed legal bases were present in the study, having cited
the University’s provisions available in the handbook and the Constitution with regards to
providing quality education. However, the study lacks a conceptual framework. According to the
dimensions of IMRAD format, a conceptual framework must stem from a theory related to the
study being conducted. Also, the study failed to cite related literature pertaining to scholarship
grants, graduate scholars and employability of such graduates. The study also failed to cite
related studies both in the local and foreign setting to give the study basis and guide for the
procedure and output to be conducted.

Also, the study did not include a scope, limitation and delimitation therefore not
specifying if the graduate scholars are scholars of LGU’s, private individuals or certain good
Samaritans who have advocacies of helping students in their education. Also, the ranges of the
scholarship grants were not also mentioned due to having no limitation and delimitation. Such
statement of the scope, limitation and delimitation helps the reader know which information are
included in the study and which are beyond the bounds of the study.

With the methodology part of the study, the study did not include the data gathering
procedures. They failed to mention how they conducted the graduate scholar tracer survey,
whether it is an online communication or personal communication.

In the results and discussion, having no related literature or study cited, the results of the
study did not include verification from a local or foreign study as should be the case of the
format for the results and discussion in IMRAD form. Citing the related studies after each of the
presentation of the results is one of the requirements of thesis making.

An abstract is missing in the study as it is important to know the highlights of the study
beforehand. Grammatical errors can also be found in the study, lacking proofreading.

Overall, the study aids in the conduct of operation of University of Batangas when it
comes to providing quality education and job opportunities to its graduates. This study, once the
insufficiencies are supplied and the technicalities improved will provide the University with an
improved and thorough insight regarding graduate scholar employability.
IMPACT ASSESSMENT OF THE COMMUNITY EXTENSION SERVICES OF UNIVERSITY OF
BATANGAS IN BRGY. SALA, BALETE, BATANGAS AS PARTNER COMMUNITY FOR A.Y.
2010-2015
A Critique

The study entitled “Impact Assessment of the Community Extension Services of

University of Batangas in Brgy. Sala, Balete, Batangas as Partner Community for A.Y. 2010-
2015” aimed to assess the impact of the community extension services of University of
Batangas in Brgy. Sala, Balete, Batangas as partner community for A.Y. 2010-2015. Upon the
examination of the study, there are some issues regarding thesis technicality that are present in
the study.

In the introduction part, the researchers discussed the related topics governing the
study, from the University of Batangas Community Extension Services policies to the meaning
and importance of community extension service as a whole. However, the study did not mention
a conceptual framework in which a theory related to the study of community extension service
shall govern the study. The importance of having a community extension service is also not
stated in the study. The conceptual framework is laid out in the study as a guide in the
processes and flow for the achievement of the objectives.

Upon examination of the methodology section, they failed to explain what a descriptive
research is in the education sector. They immediately proceeded to explaining the data
gathering instrument. They left out the part where the data gathering procedure must be
explained, emphasizing the whole process that they underwent. The statistical treatment of data
they used in their data gathering procedure was not mentioned also. Insufficiencies in
technicality were present in the current study in terms of their methodology.

The study has a thorough presentation of their results and discussion part. They
provided visuals such as a pie chart and tables in order to better discuss the results of the
study. However, they failed to cite related literature and related studies to further strengthen
their findings. According to the IMRAD format, results and discussions should be based on
related literature and related studies to emphasize the said results.

In the conclusions and recommendations sections, the findings of the study were not
presented. However, they have presented a thorough discussion of their conclusions and
recommendations.
Overall, the study is of great significance to the development of the university especially
its corporate social responsibility to its immediate community. However, some technicalities are
lacking but can be substantiated when edited and revised. Grammatical errors in failing to use
the third person point of view can be seen in the study. However, truly this study verifies and
assures that University of Batangas lends out their hands to help the communities in need.
