Dear Mr. and Mrs. Knowles,

I am writing with concern regarding Ivy’s behavior in my classroom. The rules and procedures in
my class are in place so all students have an equal opportunity to learn without being disrupted
or disrespected by other classmates. Ivy is in violation of the following rules and procedures as
stated in my class syllabus:

● Students will be respectful to other students by being open minded, considerate, and well
mannered during class discussions and peer activities.

Ivy has violated this by writing on another student’s paper, “you’re stupid,” and disrupted other
students’ ideas and explanations during class discussion. I believe that Ivy’s behavior is
negatively influencing other students’ learning, and would like to move forward from this.

I have given Ivy the opportunity to take time for herself, and use short break periods during class
to breathe and de-stress. I have also moved around the class seating so Ivy can be surrounded by
classmates I find like minded.

As these actions have decreased the behavior, it has not fully come to an end. I would like to
coordinate with you a plan for Ivy, and how we can ensure she is getting the best experience in
my class. Ivy seems to respond well to individual work, and being independent. I would like to
find ways Ivy can get out of her comfort zone and work with other students respectfully. How
would you feel about using a “3 Strike” system where Ivy loses privileges when she is disruptful
to the class? I would appreciate keeping in contact with you about this.

Please let me know if there is anything about Ivy that can help the process of getting her on track
again.

Thanks,

Kerny Hanson
