Objective (Explicit):
 Students will be able to identify the key coms of a personal statement by using the examples given, thereby
implementing these into their own personal narrative that is due by the end of the lesson.
Evidence of Mastery (Measurable):
 Include a copy of the lesson assessment.
 Provide exemplar student responses with the level of detail you expect to see.
 Assign value to each portion of the response.
Students will be required to complete a brainstorming activity that aids their personal statement. For
mastery, the student’s statement must have a clear audience, a consistent point of view, engaging words
and events, and a valid point. The statement must be 5 or more sentences and have a clear purpose. For
grading, each component of the statement will be graded. Each of these points will be worth 5 points –
adding up to 25 points.

I will introduce the subject by discussing the importance of writing in achieving goals – especially after
secondary education. Getting a job, applying for a scholarship, going to college, all require narratives.
Students can connect their aspirations to their writings.
