Assessment Rubric: Beginner Band
Students will be able to explain the basic concept of tuning sharp or flat notes and audibly
recognize and adjust intonation errors while playing the G major triad. This is the introduction of
harmony. Students will be able to respond to a variety of simple melodic lines with a drone
playing a fundamental pitch underlying the melody with both their voices and instruments at 65
beats per minute with 90-95% accuracy. Students will be able to utilize these skills on a
fundamental basis with scales, as well as applying this concept to any music they or we are
working by consistently improving their accuracy every day. However, today they will be able to
sufficiently play G major scale, one octave, in a round with a great sound and properly tuned
harmonies.
