How do you know which reinforcement
strategies will work for the class?
Observations:
My CT uses various behavior management
strategies within the classroom to benefit all
students. My CT has a tens frame for each
student and if they are behaving or doing
something good, she will have them put a
sticker on their chart. When there are ten
stickers, the students can pick something
from the treasure box. My CT also uses
overcorrection punishment when students
are not following directions. If students are
running to go somewhere, she will have them
walk back and try it again. If students are not
following classroom rules, she will have them
recite the rules at recess.

Positive reinforcement only works when you
know the students’ motivation. Positive
reinforcement will not work if students do
not like rewards. That is why it is important
to know the student, to know which type of
reinforcement or other strategies to use for
behavior management.
My CT spends time establishing routines and
behavior management strategies during the
first couple weeks before even starting the
curriculum. She does not solely focus on
positive reinforcement. I think this is
important because the students need to
understand the routines and procedures in
order to know what to do and how to act.
CONCLUSION/FINDING FROM THIS DATA
“behavior management comprises both
positive behavior support and behavioral
correction and is sometimes referred to as
classroom management” (Sørlie, M.A.,
Ogden, T., & Olseth, A.R., 2016, p 2)
Positive reinforcement is a part of classroom
management. Classroom management is
considered the same as behavior
management. There should be various
behavior management strategies
incorporated within the classroom to benefit
all students.
I am beginning to see that behavior
management is what is impacting early
learners, especially in Kindergarten.
Kindergarten teachers have an important
role. They are setting up the foundation for
early learners which will impact the rest of
their elementary years. Kindergarten is where
students learn the routines and expectations
I spend the first 2-3 weeks of school on of school, all while learning how to control
behavior management and routines. Then I their behaviors.
am able to dive into the curriculum with the
students. I feel it is important to spend those
first few weeks just on routines and
procedures because this is the students’ first
year in school. Some students had
experiences in preschool and others have
not. That being said preschool is different
from Kindergarten, so it is important for me
to establish routines and behavior
management at the beginning of the year.
