Activity To introduce this lesson, the teacher will show students what an
analog and a digital clock looks like. They will discuss the hour
hand and minute hand on the clock and where they should be
placed for telling time to the hour and half-hour. After
discussion, the teacher will use the SMART board to provide a
lesson where the students can interact with technology and
solve math problems. First, the teacher will ask for a volunteer
to come up and solve the first problem. The students will be
dragging the correct number to the correct location on the
clock. Next, the teacher and students will look at two clock
examples and determine what time they represent. The teacher
will ask for two volunteers, each student will say what they
believe the time is and then drag the flower out of the way to
see if they were correct. Next, three more volunteers will drag
the correct numbers to each clock (telling time to the hour).
Then the students will place the hour and time hands on each
clock that corresponds to the given time. After each slide, the
teacher and students will discuss the questions and determine if
the volunteers chose the correct answer. After practicing telling
time on clocks, the students will have to think about how long it
takes to do something. The next slide has the students click on
which activity would take less time. After finishing the SMART
board lesson, there is a short video about telling time.
