Grammar Mini Lesson – Present Participle Phrases

SWBAT:

 Students will identify present participles in their work by underlining.

 Students will create a work using present participles to be voluntarily read aloud.

PROCEDURE:

 4:00 – 4:05: Student will be presented the first two slides of the Prezi demonstrating a

brief display of what a present participle is

 4:05 – 4:07: Students will be asked to participate in an “I Am” exercise.

 4:07 – 4:09: Teacher will explain how easily they could create present participle without

any assistance, or demonstration, prior to the exercise. Students will also volunteer to

read their poem and identify where their participle is.

 4:09 – 4:12: Students will be shown more information on present participles. This

includes its versatility, the form, and other uses.

 4:12 – 4:16: Students will be read book quotes that contain present participles and

shown how they make the sentence more attractive.

PRACTICE:

 Students will create their own “I Am” poem to share with the class

ASSESSMENT:

 Students will find their favorite book and write 3 examples of present participles in their

quote journals.
