Seeing Progress: Reflecting on Growth

When we were assigned this project, I was extremely concerned because I have never

dealt well with working with peers and I was worried it would reflect in my personal

contributions to the assignment; however, the exact opposite of what I feared occurred and for

that reason, I want to display my successes. With the lesson plan, I completed day 5 and 6 which

were the end of the first week and the beginning of the second week. Out of the two days, day

five was my larger success as I felt it was extremely detailed in every segment. I believe that my

differentiated instruction made my classroom fitting for all individuals, and that I took into

account situations that could occur within the classroom. I completed these lesson plan days, and

the summative assessment guidelines and rubric, when I was still in my level II clinical and I

think that is a major reason I was able to figure out what students would need during the

individual days and in the differentiated instruction portion. It was also very helpful when

figuring out my times for this lesson plan because I realized that students need more time than

what we think to get things completed.

As far as the changes I would make to this document in future lessons, I would take out

the small group instruction on day 6 when I ask students to get into groups to discuss the reading.

The only reason I would take this out is because I feel like this would be more beneficial to the

class if it was a whole group discussion simply because you’ll know what topics are being

discussed, and that the major key points are being touched on. While I am disappointed this

project wasn’t completed, I think that it was a chance for my group to demonstrate how a text

doesn’t have to be well known as a literacy source in order for it to impact the students learning.

Sometimes you can find the best materials in books that get pushed aside as individuals reads.
