Abstract

In this Project Proposal we learned various methods for the design of an outreach program.

The community service engage with the outreach program development and academic service

learning support for the children in Bahay Kalinga. Its purpose is to help those children to achieve

their rights as a person through a series of many activities that they will surely enjoy during the

program. This project will also discuss the personality development and learn how to take care of

themselves by becoming healthy and responsible. Through this community, it will teaches and a

models for the young ones to do a good deeds to others. To accomplish this mission it has several

objectives which are planned to be achieve within corresponding and successive phases: To help

those less fortunate and the desire to make the community a better place in which to live. The

program mission is to enlighten the mind of each children to be a better person.

Executive Summary

The students of De La Salle University - Night College will be conducting Community

Service in Bahay Kalinga entitled: A day of giving: Outreach Program. The program requires

children who are under the supervision of Department of Social Welfare and Development –

DSWD. Children are who’s in need. The duration of the program will be divided by 2 consecutive

days 8 hours each day. We choose them to encourage them to be more positive despite of their

situation. We will be conducting activities and seminar to enlighten their mind and soul. We will

also discuss the objective and the purpose of this community service that we are aiming for the

success of everyone. We want them to feel that they are also part of the community. We want to

show that they are worthy of our help.

 Bahay Kalinga is the chosen orphanage of NYT11 to conduct a Community Service. These

are the children who are in needs and we choose them to help and have time for them because we

are more desire to encourage them despite of their situation. We are also aiming for the success of

every children in facing their struggle while spending their time in DSWD. Giving some

knowledge and showing their value as a child and a member of the nation. The scale of this project

is for Dasmariñas place only specifically on Bahay Kalinga. We, the Night11 seeking for the

attention of the children for they are able to enlighten their mind to see the better side of their

situation and strive for the best. We are about to give some activities to the children and give some

foods to be more active in this program. We ready many activities to make this Program exciting

and fun. This is for all the children of Bahay Kalinga that are needed to be encourage and for all

the college students that are needed to be unbind to the situation of some children that are needed

to give some time and effort to change some aspects of their lives. We are seeking for the help of

others to make this project more successful and to see things that are unseen by others. If we can

help, we are sure that you can also do help.

Introduction

Community service become part of education which implemented by the higher of

Commission on education for the college students to become more responsible, to improve self-

esteem and develop sensitivity to the needs of others and the community. The community service

engage with the outreach, program development and academic service learning support for the

children in DSWD. According to Harry Boyte (2008) this opportunity is intended to help students

develop the term “Civic Agency”, and by creating spaces for students to practice this through

leadership on campus and in communities. Children in DSWD also need personal hygiene to make
them comfortable and healthy. The volunteer students decided to conduct a community service in

three (3) Saturdays just to make sure that the situation of children are getting better. They will

monitor and meet out to serve a variety of charitable organizations. Through this community, it

will teaches and a models for the young ones what it means to inspire them. Students must

contribute their time, talent and effort and required to participate in community service project.

According to a 2015 report on Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), there were about 1 million

children who are under the supervision of DSWD in the Philippines and most of them were

subjected to problems such as malnutrition, drugs, Human Rights violations, raped victim, human

trafficking, prostitution and child labor. Because of this problematic situation many of programs

were opened and decided to propose various project that will help those children to achieve the

rights as a child.

Bahay Kalinga managed by people with a good intension for the children that have no

parents or who suffering in any problematic issues. Orphanages often lack the necessary funds,

resources and knowledge to properly provide for the children. In addition, most of the children in

these institutions do not stand much of a chance of breaking out of the cycle of poverty and thriving

as independent adults. They give children not just meals and a bed to sleep, instead they give them

hope and loved. They give them an opportunity to learn and educate them for the children's future.

They make children feel that they are loved. An orphanage is a home for neglected and abandoned

youth. These organization prepares orphans for life and gives them a positive view and assumption

of life. One of the biggest organization in the Philippines is the “Christian Growth Ministries-

Home of Joy, it is a licensed and accredited child caring placing welfare agency with the

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Objectives:

- To give the "BAHAY KALINGA" residents the love and affection they missed since childhood.

- To show an example of integration of local groups (student body) and designated institutions

(LGU's satellite agencies and NGOs) on improving the recognition of educators in the Philippines

that would leave an impact to everyone concerned.

- To teach every community the values of helping CHILDREN get on top of the pillars of their

dreams.

- To place DLSUD on the map of holistic site of Outsourcing Children's Welfare within the country

and eventually on international pentagon.

Project Descriptions

Project work plan:

A day of giving: Outreach Program for Children are proposed of Personality Development,

health & hygiene, Spiritual needs, feeding program and giving simple gift to the children allocated

for forty (40) children from Bahay Kalinga at Barangay Burol 1 to be conducted on October 2 and

3, 2019. The duration of the said project is from 8 am until 4 pm. As we go by in our mission, we

have resources to be needed like fund, materials and tools for mechanical (LED, projector, etc.).

To make this event successful we provided some activities and fun games to create a happiness to

the hearts of children.

The goal of this project are: to educate young people about their awareness, to help them

for the things that they are not totally aware, to give happiness and also for them to feel loved. Our
strategies to achieve this goal is we conduct a signature campaign/fund raising called "Piso mula

sa Puso" for us to provide the needs and materials for this program. We also provided different

activities for them to enjoy and we do a brainstorming to have a better event for them. The activities

that children will experience are: children will sing a song, do an art, writing letters and reading,

games and sharing about personality. We will also discuss the importance of caring and giving to

others. We will be having a budgeting for the foods and materials. And we provide a mini feeding

program.

We, students of Night College searching for the venue and participants for the program.

To succeed in this outreach program we need to work hard, work as one and team with the heart

that willing to serve, perform the duties of each of everyone and be responsible at all the time.

Each member of the team should be responsible for executing of the activity provided to make this

project successful and effective. And the outcomes that we expected to see in this program are, it

gives them lesson, this event become worth it for them and they will apply it to their daily lives.

Project Site

We will conduct a community service at Bahay Kalinga located in Burol 2 City of Dasmarinas

Cavite. We are decided to choose this place and we are going to offer a community service in the

orphanage for we want to serve them- the beneficiaries.

Reasons why we choose it:

We all know and we've heard some issues about children. And most of this are negative

which they involved into drugs or bad deeds. That's why our group decided to choose the children

in Bahay Kalinga as our participants. Which we can share our knowledge or learnings, and also

guide them. We also want to state that “Ang Kabataan ang Pag-asa ng bayan" we want to give
them hope that every mistakes has a second chance. And of course the social awareness of each

kids they need to be aware when it comes in their cases or issues: (1) they deserve a program to be

given that reflects hope to them. (2) Readiness to enjoy program and be knowledgeable and

educated. We want to talk, give hope and make these children in the orphanage feel that they are

loved for they are in that place for a lot of reasons that might brought them anxiety. We want to

serve them through a community service for this is our passion of taking care of the youth. We

want to give them different activities where they could freely express themselves and share their

stories and learn more about life experiences and hear some motivations from us. As a volunteer,

we can choose to teach music, art, sports, acting, personality development and gardening through

storytelling or games, these activities might develop themselves, showcase their talents and

express themselves.

Target Beneficiaries:

The direct beneficiaries are children who suffer in difficult situation such as drugs,

violations, sexual harassment, human trafficking etc... It is expected that 40 children are going to

directly benefit comprising of 18 males and 22 females.

Project Activities
We will be conducting some activities that children can be engaged, to make sure that they
can still adapt normally even in a different environment and status.
 GTK 45 minutes (by group or as whole)

-It is for them to know us, what are our roles and the reason what we're having this
program.
 Story telling with/out acting (question and answer)

-Lending stories where children can gain lesson that can be impacting to them, also
to know how they'll interact by answering the questions after listening to the stories.
  Reflection: what they see in present, what they want to be in the future (share our own
experience like: why are we still studying? what do we really want? what are our goals?)

-To make them see the reality with positivity, for them to understand and see the
good things in the situation they're in even though they're not living in a normal set
up for them to see hope and bright future.
 Draw: anything that can describe what they really feel, and really wants to be and to have.

-For them to know themselves more, to make sure that they can be who they are,
the one that they wanted to be.
 Show us your talent “(starts with us, then for them to also be confident to show what they've
got)

-For them to initially show their talents, to gain confidence, to think that everything
is worth trying.

Aside from the activities for self-enhancement and realization, we will be conducting some games
for further interactions

Project outcomes/results

If the community outreach programs is well-implemented and designed it will increase the

number of children participating in all activities. We, the volunteers practice effective

communication to motivate and inspired the children. We will going to explain the importance of

ensuring family, community, self-awareness, etc. Doing active outreach will help to raise
awareness about the project in the community. Creating an outreach plan can help you :( 1)

structure and target your efforts before you commit any resources; and (2) track what needs to

happen and when.

After the program were hoping that the children have learnings from the activities and sharing

that we made. We ensure that the activities we made is effective and efficient for kids. A By the

end of this Project the children on Bahay Kalinga were expected to:

We request of a total of 7,500.00 to undertake the study described above. The majority of

funds will go towards to the children expenses for the essential but time-consuming activities of

conducting and analyzing 40 children’s. The student of HRDNYT11 will be responsible for the

successful of the said project. The estimated costs for foods/ drinks/meals is P3,700.00 (Breakfast,

Lunch, Snacks), the estimated costs for the materials/Props, Games and Price’s P2, 400.00 (Used

for printed name tags, certificates, hand-outs etc. in supplies such as markers, pens, crayons,

papers, cardboards and art design for the activities that we will do). The estimated Travel costs

P400.00, and the others expenses costs P1, 000.00.

 Our group decided to contribute P500 per head multiply to the number of volunteers which

our group have 15 members. We also look for sponsors to fulfill this project and provide all the

materials needed. Below is just a sample of estimated budget plan and expenses.

PROJECT, ORGANIZATIONS AND STAFFING

The activity volunteers will make sure that all the children that attends in the project will

participate in the activities given for them. The facilatators will guarantee that the children will be

safe inside the premises and ensure that there is peace and order in the activity area during the

activities.

The activity facilatator will facilitate the activities that is provided for the children, they

will also provide materials needed for every activity. In the program there will be assigning as a

program coordinator that will organize and arrange the sequence of activity that are going to be

held during the program. There will be someone who will allocate in the food area,they are going

to assist in giving foods of the children.
