"INTRODUCTION AND LAYOUT OF METALLURGY LAB”

OBJECTIVE:
To become familiar with the apparatus used in Metallurgy Lab.

The apparatus/equipments used in the metallurgy lab are as following;

1. CUT OFF MACHINE:-
The purpose of this apparatus is to cut the specimen into a small piece for its
examination.

2. METALLURGICAL MICROSCOPE:-
Metallurgical microscope is used to study the surface of the specimen.

3. MOUNTING PRESS:-
This apparatus is used to preserve the specimen to save it from any kind of damages.

4. POLISHING WHEELS:-
Polishing wheels are used to smooth the surface of a specimen which may have a very
rough surface after it is being cut by a cutting machine.

5. UNIVERSAL TESTING MACHINE:-

Universal Testing Machine is used to check the tensile and compressive strengths of a
material.

7. MICRO WICKER HARDNESS APPARATUS:-

This apparatus is used to find out the hardness of the specimen.

8. ELECTRIC FURNACE:-
Electric furnace is used to heat the specimen to a required temperature. The
temperature given depends on the carbon percentage.
