MBA in Ireland: Two Schools to consider

country.

Ireland has historically been rich in culture and innovation, ranging

MBA students can choose from some of the world’s oldest educational
institutions, and bene t from a long tradition of academic excellence.

The best programs are in Dublin, which is considered to be among the


top 10 student cities in the world. Non-EU students can work in Ireland
for up to 6 months after graduation. The people are welcoming, and
Ireland is known for its multiculturalism. World’s leading companies

University of Dublin - Trinity College


The Trinity College is located in Dublin, Ireland’s coastal capital. In
1964, the Business School became one of the rst European schools to
o er an MBA. The college is part of Ireland’s oldest university –
University of Dublin (founded in 1592). Trinity builds on the university’s
famous personalized, lecture based teaching with a 1-year MBA
program that admits only 35 students each year. It places special
emphasis on the leadership perspective, and managerial skills, with an
added focus on working in a global, multicultural atmosphere re ected
in the class pro le that showcases 16 nationalities. The teaching
methodology is based on action learning with case study discussions
and team based activities. In 2010, the average base salary for graduates
was $85,000, with 90% employed within the rst three months.

The school has a strong research base, with centers like the Centre for
Nonpro t Management, the Centre for Global Business Systems, the
Industrial Relations Research Trust and the Pension Policy Research
Group. The Institute for International Integration Studies (IIIS),
International Residency Week and The International Masterclass Series
help students gains knowledge and skills for the international market.
The salient feature of the MBA program is the three central projects that
keep students engaged with the industry throughout the duration.  The
Social Entrepreneurship Project involves a radical new business process
that meets an important social need.

The High Potential Business Growth Project is a corporate consulting


project where student groups interact with senior managers and
executives to deliver solutions to

University College Dublin’s MBA program also began in 1964, and today
it o ers a 1-year MBA featuring small classes and team based learning.
The class pro le is diverse, with 55% among the 45 students having an
international background. In fact, nearly 75% have completed a portion
of their career abroad. Emphasis is placed on team based learning, with
teams of 4 to 5 formed every semester. The teaching methodology is
centered on case studies, with lectures, simulations, role-playing, guest
lecturers, seminars and projects. The practical side of managerial
education is given a bigger weightage, and the curriculum is regularly
reviewed in conjunction with the industry. The average base salary of
the graduating class of 2012 was $78,500 with 97% of students
employed within three months of graduation.

The school is well known for its research programs and has centers like
the Financial Mathematics & Computational Research Cluster (FMC),
the Centre for Information, Technology & Systems (CITO), the Centre
for Management Science & Systems (CMSS), the Natural Computing
Research and Applications Group (NCRA), the Centre for Corporate
Governance, the National Institute of Technology Management (NITM),
the Centre for Employment Relations and Organizational Performance,
the Centre for Financial Markets (CFM) and the Global Finance
Academy. There also are a host of programs to develop students’
managerial skills.

The Leadership Development Program holds a series of workshops, and


provides individual business leadership coaching. The Exchange
Program allows MBA students to spend a part of their course with
partner institutions in Asia, India, South Africa, North America and
South America.

The International Study Trip is a 1-week study program, part of the


Doing Business in Emerging Markets module. The trips include
university visits, seminars, business meetings, networking
opportunities and cultural activities in countries like Brazil and China.
There are various Mentor Programs, and each student is assigned to two
recent graduates for mentorship. The MBA program also has a Capstone
Project where students take on real-life business challenges in a eld of
their interest. Students at UCD Smur t School have a wide alumni
network of over 50,000 graduates in 100+ countries.
