INTRODUCTION:

● My name is Bushra and I am doing some research about the different experiences of
pregnant women, the common issues and problems they face as well as the good
moments and learning lessons which they go through.
● So I would like to ask you some questions regarding your experience of childbirth and
how you felt throughout the 9 month journey/ I would like to ask you some questions
regarding your everyday life during this phase and how you feel carrying a little life inside
of you.
● Can I please record this interview for my future reference?

INTRO QUESTIONS:
1a) How are you feeling today?
1b) How has your day been going?/How was your day?

2) What is your normal day to day routine?


a) Was this your routine before you got pregnant as well or has it changed now? ( if the
interviewee is pregnant at the moment?)
b) What was your routine like when you were pregnant?(if the interviewee is not pregnant
at the moment)

3) What is the first thing that comes in your mind when you think about your pregnancy ? ( I
have limited the question by putting in ‘first thing’ to get to know what is the most pressing
matter on their mind related to their pregnancy)

4) How do you/did you feel being pregnant?/ What are /were your feelings while giving birth?
a) (if there are negative feelings) What do you think gave rise to these negative feelings/ could
you share with me what you think might be or is the cause of these negative feelings?
b) Do you think there are any ways to overcome the factors causing you to feel this way or
would you like to share some ways through which you think the whole experience of giving birth
could be made better?
c) (if there are positive feelings) That is very awesome! Would you like to share with me what in
your opinion are some of the things or lifestyles other women can adopt to make their
experience of pregnancy and childbirth more positive and pleasant?

5) Do you think you would have liked to have a pregnancy partner? Someone who is at the
same stage of pregnancy as you and you both could discuss different issues with each other
and support each other throughout the journey?

6) People, usually relatives and friends, who have gone through this experience tend to give alot
of suggestions and advice including herbal and home remedies passed down from the older
generation about what to do and what not to do during pregnancy and after child birth.Did you
get any such advice from people around you?
a)Do you think there was any advice that was really useful and you would recommend others?
b)Do you recall any advice that seemed to be completely weird and funny to you?Would you
have followed that advice if you heard it coming from a professional or from lots of other
women?

7) Could you recall any situation in which it was very hard for you to take a quick decision
related to your health or childbirth because of lack of information/ Has there been a situation
during your pregnancy for which you feel you were not able to take the right decision for your
health or delivery because of lack of information and facts?

8) What kind of sources do you use to educate yourself about pregnancy , childbirth and
childcare?
a) Do you feel that these sources are always correct and reliable?
b) (if they answer yes to 7a) Could you share some of the information from these sources
that was really helpful for you?
c) (if they answer no to 7a) Why do you think that the information on these sources are not
always reliable?

birth that you would want other women to benefit from too?

what would you wish for or ask for?

think can make life easier for women giving birth?
