CLASSROOM OBSERVATION 2

Classroom Observation

For this observation, I observed a Physical education class with students in Kindergarten

through 5th grade at Rivercrest Elementary School in Bogata, Texas. The teacher, Coach

Stansell, taught seven 30 minute class throughout her day. I learned different techniques and

strategies to help guide students skills that they will use throughout the entire lives. Physical

education classes promote a healthy lifestyle for students' emotional and social development, as

well as physical skill improvement. I have learned that every student is different and has a

different way of learning things. I liked seeing that every student enters the classroom with a

smile on their faces, ready and eager to learn, and have fun in PE class. As well as seeing the

student striving to work hard and achieve their daily tasks. My experience of being able to do

this has been the best yet. I have always been passionate about sports and want to become a

teacher. I am being able to observe a teacher that is so passionate about what she enjoys doing

inspire me more to continue on my journey to become a teacher. The interaction between the

teacher and the students was very positive. The teacher demonstrates knowledge and caring

about each student's lives beyond the class and school. There is no disrespectful behavior among

students. Students participate without fear of put-downs or ridicule from either teacher or other

students. The teacher respects and encourages students effort. The kinesthetic learner was the

primary learning style. The student is learning with movement. Each day the student will begin

with five-minute and exercise at their assigned station, rock climbing, jumping rope, jogging in

place, and walking. I would say the lessons were student-centered because it enables the

students to interact with other students and also with teachers. Group activities play a vital role in

this method. I believe this helps to improve their communication and social skills. Students learn

by asking questions, discussing with others, and comparing it to a real-life experience. I plan on

implementing everything that I learned in my future classroom. Coach Stansell is a great teacher,

and it was a pleasure observing her, and I will be using some of her techniques in my future. The

two main reasons that I have chosen to become a teacher is that I believe that teaching is

extremely personally rewarding in many ways and the fact that I can actively make a difference

in someone’s life.
