Analyzing Data Assignment

As a class I feel that my students did not do as well as I wanted them too. As a whole the

class average was a 67% with 9 students placing 60% or below and 7 students placing higher

than 60%. My class struggled the most with division and did the best with addition. Division is

much more complex to learn, and I need to either readjust the way I am teaching division or

continue to go over it more until the class feels more comfortable with the material. Even though

the class did better with addition and subtraction it is still something that needs to be improved

on so that scores are better. My student’s performance on this assignment shows me that I may

not have done everything I needed to for my students. I need to work harder to make sure that I

am doing everything I can to help my students better understand what I am teaching them.

There were a few students that did very well on the assignment and seem to grasp the

overall basics of the materials that were covered. Juan received a 100% on the assignment and

seems to understand each subject that was covered on the test.. Another student that did very

well on this assignment was Cody. Cody received a 93%, getting every subtraction and division

question correct. Cody seems to understand the basics of each piece of material covered. Since

addition does seem to be an easier subject for students and it is the only question he missed, I

will make sure to check and see if the mistake that was made was accidental and that he was not

rushing. If this is not the case, I will make sure to go over the answers so that he can see what he

did wrong. Hugh received an 80% on his assignment making him another student that did well

with the materials covered. He got 100% in the addition section, an 80% in the subtraction

section, and a 60% in the division portion of the assignment. It seems that Hugh is grasping most
of the materials that are being covered but needs more support and time to make sure he masters

the concepts.

Even though there were many students that did well, majority of the students I have

struggled with this assignment. Luke received a 40% on his assignment and got the same number

of questions wrong for each subject covered. I feel that he is either not focusing on the materials

that are being covered or I am not teaching him the proper strategies that help him understand

what he needs to do. Nathan received a 47% on his assignment and seemed to really struggle

with subtraction. I will make sure that I am able to pull him so that I can go over subtraction with

him so that he is understanding it better. Patrick received a 53% on his assignment and seemed to

have a good understanding of addition. Subtraction and division are both areas that he needs to

really focus on, and I will make sure to go over those two subjects with him.
