Connect the protective earthing screw (pos 1 in figure 20) on the rear of the IED to the closest
possible earthing point in the cubicle. Electrical codes and standards require that protective
earth cables are green/yellow conductors with a cross section area of at least 2.5 mm2
(AWG14).

The cubicle must be properly connected to the station earthing system. Use a conductor with
a core cross section area of at least 4 mm2 (AWG 12).

6.1.3 Connecting the power supply module SEMOD128790-5 v7

The wiring from the cubicle terminal block to the IED terminals (see Figure 15 for PSM
connection diagram) must be made in accordance with the established guidelines for this type
of equipment.

Insert only the corresponding male connector to the female connector.

Inserting anything else (such as a measurement probe) may violate the female
connector and prevent a proper electrical contact between the printed circuit
board and the external wiring connected to the screw terminal block.

The auxiliary power wiring should have a minimum cross-sectional area of 1.0 mm2 and a
voltage rating of 250 V. Branch circuit protection must be provided in the auxiliary power
supply wiring to the IED, and if necessary it must be possible to disconnect manually from the
power supply. Fuse or circuit breaker up to 6 A and 250 V should be close to the equipment. It
is recommended to separate the instrument transformer leads from the other cables, that is,
they should not be run in the same cable ducts or loom. The connections are made on
connector X11.

6.1.4 Connecting to CT and VT circuits M11991-6 v3

CTs and VTs are connected to the 24–pole connector of the Transformer input module (TRM)
on the rear side of the IED. Connection diagram for TRM is shown in figure 12.

must be used to connect the CT and VT circuits.
M11991-10 v4
Connectors on TRM (for location see section "Rear side connectors") for current and voltage
transformer circuits are so called “feed-through IED blocks” and are designed for conductors
with cross sectional area up to 4 mm2 (AWG 12). The screws used to fasten the conductors
should be tightened with a torque of 1Nm.

Connector terminals for CT and VT circuits, as well as terminals for binary input and output
signals, can be of either ringlug or compression connection type, depending on ANSI/IEC
standards, or customers choice.

6.1.5 Connecting the binary input and output signals M11992-9 v8

Auxiliary power and signals are connected using voltage connectors. Signal wires are
connected to a female connector (see Figure 21) which is then plugged into the corresponding
male connector (see Figure 22) located at the rear of the IED. For location of BIM, BOM and IOM
refer to section "Rear side connectors". Connection diagrams for BIM, BOM and IOM are shown
in Figure 13, Figure 16 and Figure 17.

Do not insert anything else to the female connector but the corresponding
male connector. Inserting anything else (such as a measurement probe) may
violate the female connector and prevent a proper electrical contact between
the printed circuit board and the external wiring connected to the screw
terminal block.

If the IED is equipped with a test-switch of type RTXP 24, COMBIFLEX wires with 20 A sockets,
1.5mm² (AWG16) conductor area must be used to connect the auxiliary power.

Procedure

1. Connect signals to the female connector

The conductors can be of rigid type (solid, stranded) or of flexible type.
The female connectors accept conductors with a cross section area of 0.2-2.5 mm2 (AWG
24-14). If two conductors are used in the same terminal, the maximum permissible cross
section area is 0.2-1 mm2 (AWG 24-18).
If two conductors, each with area 1.5 mm2 (AWG 16) need to be connected to the same
terminal, a ferrule must be used, see figure 23. Crimp this ferrule properly to the wire
using tools as recommended by the supplier of the ferrules (keep stripping length of the
cable to minimum 10 mm). The fastening screw shall be tightened with a torque of 0.4
Nm (This torque applies to all binary connectors).
2. Plug the female connector to the corresponding back-side mounted male connector
3. Lock the female connector by fastening the lock screws

The cable shield shall be properly connected to the IED chassis by the cable
clamp with the maximum open conductor length of 40 mm between clamp and
terminals. If double shielded cable is used, the inner cable shielding should be
connected at the external equipment end only. At the IED terminal end, the
inner shield should be isolated.

6.2 Making of Ethernet connections

6.2.1 Connecting station communication interfaces M11720-2 v11

The numerical module (NUM) provides up to four Ethernet ports (one basic and three
optional). These ports are used for IEC 61850 or DNP3 communication. The serial
communication module (SLM) provides four optical ports which are used for LON, SPA, IEC
60870-5-103 or DNP3 communication.

• Ports X301 to X304 on the NUM module are used for IEC 61850-8-1 and IEC/UCA
61850-9-2LE communication. Ports X301/X302 and X303/X304 are to be used in pairs for
redundant communication. The optical port connectors are of LC type and the galvanic
connectors are of RJ45 type.
• Optical ports X311 A and B on the SLM module are used for SPA, IEC 60870-5-103 or DNP3
communication. The port connectors are of ST (glass) or HFBR Snap in (plastic) type.
• Optical ports X311 C and D (Tx, Rx) on the SLM module are used for LON communication.
The port connectors are of ST (glass) or HFBR Snap in (plastic) type.

Connecting

Optical fibers have Transmission (Tx) and Reception (Rx) connectors, and they should be
attached to the Tx and Rx connectors on the SLM module (Tx cable to Rx connector, Rx cable to
Tx connector). Connectors are usually color coded: connect blue or dark grey cable connectors
to blue or dark grey (receive) back-side connectors. Connect black or grey cable connectors to
black or grey (transmit) back-side connectors.

Fiber-optical cables are very sensitive to handling. Do not bend too sharply. The
minimum curvature radius is 15 cm for plastic fiber cables and 25 cm for glass
fiber cables. If cable straps are used to fix the cables, apply them with a loose
fit.
Always hold the connector, never the cable, when connecting or disconnecting
optical fibers. Do not twist, pull or bend the fiber. Invisible damage may
increase fiber attenuation making communication impossible.

RJ45 LAN ports of the IED are PELV or SELV circuits.

The connected remote circuit must be PELV or SELV circuits.

Ensure that the clearance distance accordance with national regulations, for
the highest voltage that may be present within the cabinet. This can be done by
ensuring that the LAN cables are mounted and fixed with sufficient distance to
all HLV circuits.

During transportation of a relay mounted in a cubicle, the optical fibers must

be disconnected from the OEM ports.

Strictly follow the instructions from the manufacturer for specific types of
optical cables/connectors.

When utilizing galvanic RJ45 SFP ports for the IEDs network connection(s), the
installation shall be done in such way that the electrical power distribution
environment follows Environment A as specified in IEEE 802.3. In other words,
the LAN or LAN segments, with all its associated interconnected equipment, is
entirely contained within a single low-voltage power distribution system and
within a single building.

6.2.2 Connecting remote communication interfaces LDCM M12637-2 v6

The Line Data Communication Module (LDCM) (see Figure 14) is used for transferring binary
and analog signal data between IEDs in different protection schemes on the IEEE/ANSI C37.94
protocol.

When LDCM is used for binary signal exchange between IEDs in the same station or even
within the same panel, the fiber optic cables can be quite short (1-2 meters). With such an
installation it is important to set the LDCM parameter OptoPower = LowPower.

Instance When several occurrences of the same function are available in the IED,
they are referred to as instances of that function. One instance of a
function is identical to another of the same kind but has a different
number in the IED user interfaces. The word "instance" is sometimes
defined as an item of information that is representative of a type. In
the same way an instance of a function in the IED is representative of a
type of function.

Overreach A term used to describe how the relay behaves during a fault condition.
For example, a distance relay is overreaching when the impedance
presented to it is smaller than the apparent impedance to the fault
applied to the balance point, that is, the set reach. The relay “sees” the
fault but perhaps it should not have seen it.

Underreach A term used to describe how the relay behaves during a fault condition.
For example, a distance relay is underreaching when the impedance
presented to it is greater than the apparent impedance to the fault
applied to the balance point, that is, the set reach. The relay does not
“see” the fault but perhaps it should have seen it. See also Overreach.
UTC Coordinated Universal Time. A coordinated time scale, maintained by
the Bureau International des Poids et Mesures (BIPM), which forms the
basis of a coordinated dissemination of standard frequencies and time
signals. UTC is derived from International Atomic Time (TAI) by the
addition of a whole number of "leap seconds" to synchronize it with
Universal Time 1 (UT1), thus allowing for the eccentricity of the Earth's
orbit, the rotational axis tilt (23.5 degrees), but still showing the Earth's
irregular rotation, on which UT1 is based. The Coordinated Universal
Time is expressed using a 24-hour clock, and uses the Gregorian
calendar. It is used for aeroplane and ship navigation, where it is also
sometimes known by the military name, "Zulu time." "Zulu" in the
phonetic alphabet stands for "Z", which stands for longitude zero.
