NOTABLE EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS:

Several notable educational institutions are located in the town, including a campus of
the Rawalpindi Medical College, a campus of the Punjab College of Commerce. The IIUI
Schools network, The City School and the Beacon School System have local campuses.
Pakistan's top university, Quaid-i-Azam University, was initially established here before being
shifted to its current location in 1971. The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education,
Rawalpindi is also headquartered here.

THREE YEARS PLANNING PATTERN:

Satellite Town was Pindi`s once posh area, five years ago which is now swarmed by commercial
outlets. A massive and integrated planning is required to convert this area back to what it used to
be.

The Satellite Town should be divided into commercial, residential, urban and educational
zones/sectors on the pattern of Islamabad. The theme of the planning is proper utilization of land.
There must be separate commercial areas and residential localities.
Satellite town is facing an unplanned and haphazard growth. Commercial activity in residential
areas would be banned and people living in markets like Raja Bazaar, Iqbal Road, City Saddar
Road, Banni etc., would be advised to commercialize their houses at nominal charges through
the civic agencies on a voluntary basis.
The commercial activity should be along the roads. Nobody would be allowed to convert his/her
house into a shop.

“A family living in congested and noisy Raja Bazaar must shift to the calm environment outside
the city. Similarly, residents do not feel relaxed living near Iqbal Road, Saidpur Road, Banni
Chowk, Commercial Market and other business centers. They must shift to other places to enjoy
a peaceful environment.
It may be mentioned here that the future planning should encourage conversion of residential
areas into commercial ones especially the areas of Banni and Raja Bazar.

PLANNERS:
The planners for the three years plan include officials of municipal agencies, including town
municipal administration, Spatial Planning and Housing Department, Rawalpindi Development
Authority (RDA) and some consultants like the Survey of Pakistan for regulating land use in the
city.
