Aims This module basic information regarding the agriculture. Students will
be introduced about the impact of different weather elements on crops,
Land resources of Pakistan, Irrigation system of Pakistan, Land use and
its problems.
Objectives 1. To familiarize the students with bases of Agriculture.
2. To provide sufficient knowledge of weather elements with
regards to crops.
3. To provide substantial understanding of the land resources of
Pakistan.

Syllabus Theory:
Agriculture Definition, history, Introduction, Importance and branches,
Salient features of Pakistan’s agriculture, Climate of Pakistan, its major
characteristics and impact on crop production, Land resources and their
utilization in Pakistan, Soil and their physical properties, Plant
nutrition, crops of Pakistan, crop protection measures, tillage practices,
Water resources of Pakistan, irrigation methods, Problems of Pakistan’s
agriculture, low Soil fertility, low and erratic rainfall, water logging
salinity and alkalinity, drainage and erosion.

PRACTICAL:

Measurement of land conventional and matric system; introduction and


use of hand tools and implements; Recording weather data, types of
thermometers and their uses, techniques and instruments for measuring
rainfall, light and atmospheric humidity, identification of crop plants,
weeds, seeds and demonstration of fertilizer application methods
Identification of various soil types; determination of soil moisture
contents, saturation percentage, field capacity and wilting point (DUL
and CLL); Field visits.
