Title: Chemical Engineers in the Food Industry Leading Disaster Resiliency and Economic
Recovery

The food industry is a complex, global network of diverse businesses that supplies most of
the food that the world's population consumes. It covers a range of industrial activities directed at
food manufacturing, distribution, processing, conversion, preparation, storage, transportation,
certification and packaging. Today's food industry is highly diversified, with manufacturing ranging
from highly labor-intensive small, traditional family-owned activities to large, capital-intensive,
highly mechanized industrial processes.

For today’s webinar, we have discussed about the role of a chemical engineer in the food
industry.

Chemical engineering is a field of engineering that deals with the design and operation of
industrial chemical processes, it is one of the vast new fields of engineering. Chemical engineers use
chemistry to transform raw materials or chemicals into more useful products.

In the food industry, there are various principles that take advantage of the phenomena of
chemical engineering. Chemical engineers contribute to the food industry by inventing technologies
that meet the demands, improve food quality and extend shelf life. Chemical engineers also come up
with techniques that can protect people from food poisoning. Chemical engineers are contributing
to the food industry by finding ways to help protect and enhance food production. Chemical
engineers play’s an important role in packaging by developing advanced materials and technologies
that can be used in packaging. Packaging is one of the most important trends in the food industry
and is the responsibility of chemical engineers. They ensure that the packaging material is free of
artificial additives. Chemical engineers prescribe new products by mixing and processing different
industries. They change the ingredients of the foods we eat and change the ingredients for a better
taste. They find alternative elements. Overall, chemical engineers are working to improve human
nutrition. They apply chemistry and engineering together to come up with fresher, tastier, healthier,
and ready-to-eat foods.
Food is essential for people to live, and chemical engineers play’s a big role in food
processing industry. As a future chemical engineer, learning thongs about the food industry is a
must. For in the future, I/We may enter this industry to work. Chemical engineers are working to
improve the quality of life for people. Most of the items that people use on a daily basis required a
chemical engineer to manufacture them. Chemical engineers are helping to end hunger, illness and
poverty. We are working to protect the environment by developing alternative technologies to
combat acid rain, lead pollution and the greenhouse effect.
