Apportionment.
Apportionment involves dividing something up, just like fair division. ... Also like fair division,
the apportionment processes that are widely used do not always give the best answer,
and apportionment is still an open field of mathematics
Examples of how to solve for Apportionment and the different kinds of method
used.
1.)
United Pacific a start an airline company has created the new Train Plane! They will
start with sixty five flights per month or three routes. Those routes are: Chicago to
New York, Chicago to Los Angeles and Chicago to Miami. They anticipate 4010
passengers flying from Chicago to New York, 3150 flying from Chicago to Los
Angeles. And 1840 flying from Chicago to Miami. Apportion the flights to the routes
based on the number of anticipated passengers using the Hamilton Method. Make
sure to show all work and write a conclusions statement discussing the final
apportionment round to three decimal places for all calculations
The Hamilton method of apportionment is actually a largest-remainder method which uses the Hare
Quota. It is named after Alexander Hamilton, who invented the largest-remainder method in 1792. It
was first adopted to apportion the U.S. House of Representatives every ten years between 1852 and
1900.
STANDARD DIVISOR (SD)= TOTAL POPULATION DIVIDED BY THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE TO APPORTION
SD = 9000
65
For your information, 65 is the standard quota of flight per month to be achieved in three
different routes.
Solution using Hamilton plan to achieve the exact of number of people to apportion.
Data.
So, using Hamilton plan we are able to achieve the goal of standard quota which is 65 flights per month.
Where in this method we round off the quotient to be able to make it exact. Because Hamilton Plan’s
principle is to achieve your standard quota in a way of rounding off your quotients to be able to come
up with the standard quota you want to obtain.

League Members Representative Huntington-
hill number
American League 680 8 5000
National League 500 7 4464
So, we decided to use the Huntington-Hill number to solve this problem because we can see that using
this method we will achieve our goal.
Huntington-Hill method is If a state's quotient is higher than its geometric mean, it will be allocated an
additional seat. This method will almost always result in the desired number of seats. The geometric
mean of two numbers is the square root of their product.
(Pa)^2
a (a+1)
=5000 =4464
Thus, American League should be the one that needs to add a representative.
Because if you will going to compare, American League has more members than the National League.
So to make it fair since American League consists of 600 members, there are many to choose from
compared to National League who has 500 members.
Since the rule of the Huntington-Hill method is that when there is a choice of adding one
representative to one of several states, the representative should be added to the state with greatest
Huntington-Hill number. Since, After solving the result is that American league has the greatest
Huntington-hill number then, American League should be the one to have the additional representative.

Part 3 Helping out DU30 The Philippine house of representatives has decided to increase its
membership by one. Choose one of seventeen regions to analyze to determine which region
should receive extra representative. Find the population and number and number of
representative from that region you have chosen. Round to the nearest tenth of a million
(100,000) for example a population 16,725,415 would be rounded to 16.7million use the
Huntington hill number or principal of apportionment to make your determination. Round the
huntington hill number to 3 decimal places. Make sure to show all work including region
names populations number of representative and huntington hill numbers. Write a conclusions
discussing your findings. When you have completed your project make sure to double check
your project with the rubic. Make sure that all required information is present.
Data.
REGION POPULATION (Millions) REPRESENTATIVE
(NCR) 12. 8 17

Region II 3.4 6
Regio III 11.2 9
Region IV 14.4 6

Since the rule of the Huntington-Hill method is that when there is a choice of adding one
representative to one of several states, the representative should be added to the state with greatest
Huntington-Hill number. Since, After solving the result is that Region IV has the greatest Huntington-hill
number because it also has the greatest population. So obviously, Region IV should be the one to have
the additional representative.
