TOPIC PROPOSAL

Topic Proposal:

Mechanical Engineering

Engineering is someone that can make life easier for the people, but Mechanical

Engineering is the part of engineering that involves the design, production, and operation of

machinery. It is one of the oldest and broadest of the engineering jobs. Calvert (1967) described

how American mechanical engineers can better be placed in perspective by looking at some of

the findings of these researchers (p. xiii). The Department of Mechanical Engineering at UTEP

has about 1500 college undergraduate and graduates almost 200 students every year, making it

one of the top awarded mechanical science college in the nation.

Research Questions

Why did we as Americans feel that Mechanical Engineering should be taught as a major

on school campuses?

West Point set up one of the first Mechanical Engineering classes in 1802. Most of the

land granted colleges set up by the states after 1862 had critical engineering schools, the most

popular of which was the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, first known as Boston Tech

from 1865 to 1916. As late as 1889, 150 American students were chosen to design in German

schools, still generally observed as the world's ideal for Engineering. Those working for

advanced educations in building during those equivalent years went from none to around 4,000.

The problem that will be solved in the book is questions that are asked more frequently,

does a high general rate of social and economic mobility in a society prove that the leadership

and membership of an occupation or profession of high social status did in fact come from a

lower social and economic? (pg. xiii)

Conclusion
TOPIC PROPOSAL

I’m hoping Utep can help me get to my dream profession of modeling/designing the body

of cars for a big-time car company.
