I. Method of Enquiry (5 Hours)
History of Scientific thinking, Linear & Mechanistic view of life, Gaia Theory, Holism & Systems Theory, Complexity: Meaning and theories.
II. Education and Sustainable Living (5 Hours)
Critical Analysis of role of education in supporting an unsustainable development paradigm, Evan Illich: De-schooling Society, Satish Kumar: Education with Hands, Hearts & Heads, Daniel Goleman: Ecological Intelligence.
III. Economics and Sustainable Living (5 Hours)
Definition, Nature and scope of Economics, Types of economies: capitalistic, socialist and mixed economy. Consumerism and materialistic growth paradigm. Alternative Economic Models: Buddhist Economics & Sacred Economics.
IV. Food and Sustainable Living (5 Hours)
History of food and human diet, Alkaline food and acidic food, Industrialization of food, food and climate change. Sustainable agriculture methods: Natural farming, permaculture, organic farming.
V. Climate Resilient Communities (5 Hours)
Community: Definition and characteristics, Methods for building climate resilient communities: Eco-Architecture, Agroforestry, Renewable Energy sources: Solar, Wind and Hydro. Water conservation methods: rain water harvesting, plant vegetation, roof top harvesting and zero net deforestation.
